What do you think of the name Freddie?

After months of deliberation, DH and I have decided to call our baby Frederick but will shorten it to Freddie day to day. His middle name has to be Alexander as it is a family thing.

Anyway, I've made the mistake of telling a few people and am really surprised at the number of them who absolutely hate it (and are so keen to tell me so ). I didn't think it was that controversial to be honest. Just looking for some reassurance that it isn't awful I suppose.

I am really surprised that anyone could hate such a lovely name.

Two thumbs up.

I think it great, am thinking about it to, but surname starts with a F so not sure if to much of a mouthful.

We told outlaws name with 1st after he was born and they laughed so changed it wouldn't ever do that again, just don't mention names to anyone

My little brother is called Freddie. He was Christened Frederick, it was very cute for a little boy and he is now a strapping 18 year old and has never been teased for his name. It really suits him and is a nice manly name, not too soft.

I know a Frederick. He was Freddie as a child, now he's an adult he calls himself Fred. So just be prepared he might not be Freddie forever!

FIL made me promise faithfully not to call any son I might have Frederick/Fred/Freddie. So DS is now Matthew Frederick after his late and much missed Grandpa Fred. FIL died before I married DH but would have loved DS so much.

I like it.

I absolutely love it - it is my dog's name (rather regretted that because I'd liked to have used it for a ds).

I love Frederick, but dispise Freddy...!We planned for a while to call ys Frederick, but the thought of people calling him Fred or Freddy put me off the name...so, now he is Flynn, a name that is pretty impossible to be shortened
