We love the name Anna, but can't decide on a middle name.

Elizabeth. It's not a name I'd ever have chosen myself but I think it flows nicely with Anna.

I'm going to be honest here... Anna is a bit of a beige name.
I'd go for something a bit more colourful for her second name if you're really set on using it.

To grandparents, aunts etc my Anna is always Anna Banana. She is resigned to it at 23. She has no middle name.

It's not beige at all! It's my name and I love it, mainly because it's a truly international name - unlike Hannah. Apologies to any Hannah's out there. My only misgiving about naming a child Anna is that it's now become quite a common name.
That aside, and back to the original question : my middle name is Margaret. A less attractive name to my mind, but I was named after both my grandmothers so I still take some pride in it.

My friend Anna has the middle name Belle.

Decades of explaining that it’s Anna Belle not Annabel.

She does not recommend it.

I was born in the early 80s so of course it's Marie! I knew an Anna whose surname was Rose and was jealous of how pretty it sounded, but I think Rose/May are the Marie/Louise of recent years.

For the love of God, don’t give her a dull, filler one syllable middle name like May, Rose or Grace.
or Jane.
and not Louise either.
