Thoughts on Dermot?

I really like the name Dermot, I think it's nice but not overused. Had a bit of a marmite response from people, when I've mentioned it as a possible option for baby. Just wondering what people's opinions on the name are? Thank you

I much prefer Diarmuid.

Dermot is a fine name, no bad associations that I know of, but looks and sounds a bit abrupt and clumsy to me, sorry.

N0ëlle · 06/07/2023 16:22

Diarmuid please. I know a lovely Dermot, but Diarmuid for a child. 🙏

Liv999 · 06/07/2023 16:47

Diarmuid here too, lovely name

Abhannmor · 06/07/2023 16:52

Diarmuid. Lovely sound. Also the epic old legend - Pursuit of Diarmuid and Grainne.
Also, unlike many Irish boys names , it doesn't end in A so is unlikely to be appropriated as a girls' name.

SoSoSoSo · 06/07/2023 16:57

It's a very unattractive name.

smoocakes6 · 06/07/2023 16:59

How do you pronounce Diarmuid ?

Onthelow · 06/07/2023 17:01

I don’t like it at all sorry.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 06/07/2023 17:19

Just makes me think O'Leary.

As a name I think it's awful, sorry. It's not a nice 'sound' either is it?! Derm-ert Derm-utt
Sounds like something medical

Newnamenewname109870 · 06/07/2023 21:18

O’leary

EarringsandLipstick · 06/07/2023 21:30

Love Diarmuid too. It's a family name for us.

Though in Dublin it's often pronounced 'Dermot' anyway 🤦🏻‍♀️ or shortened eg for sports to 'Jermo' 😩

SunnyFog · 06/07/2023 21:31

Great classic name. I like the spelling Dermot, or Diarmait, or Diarmaid. Diarmuid looks funny to my eyes.

unicornsandchocolate · 06/07/2023 21:38

I actually quite like Dermot. I also like Diarmuid ( a lot). I know it's a completely different name, but I love the sound of the name Declan too. Is a little softer than Dermot.

barca123 · 06/07/2023 22:15

It’s lovely

DEERmud.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/07/2023 15:07

I like it. It reminds me of Dermot O'Leary and also seems a happy man

Middle aged man territory - sorry! 🤷🏽‍♀️

That’s how I’d say it too (NI).

love Diarmuid. Less abrupt than Dermot.

ElizaWinter · 09/07/2023 00:22

I prefer Delboy

EightyThree · 09/07/2023 00:22

I think it’s awful.

MouseSculptureMadeOfOldHairbrushFluff · 09/07/2023 01:03

Don't like Dermot or Diarmuid. They're a bit frumpy to my ears.

Jongleterre · 09/07/2023 01:12

All I can think of is that little weasel on the telly, Dermot O'Dreary.

LordSalem · 09/07/2023 02:31

Middle aged pan faced man. Might as well go for David or Boris. The alternative is just spicy pan faced.
