Baby Barry?

I never thought I'd see that one make a comeback!

It's pronounced more like 'Bairy/Berry' in the US, not sure if that makes it any more palatable for any of you Barry nay-sayers?
I knew baby/child Colin, Derek, Evelyn, Barbara, Marilyn when we lived in the US.

Oh yes, I could never work out if the ditched-at-the-wedding ex of Rachel's in Friends was 'Berry' or 'Barry'.

All the Boomer names will start making a come back soon - brace yourselves for a wave of Dereks and Nigels, Maureens and Pams...

Kevin and Sandra’s

I doubt it has the same connotations as it does in the UK. There’s a US tv series, Barry, about a hit man. Here, it would have invited sniggers.

My toddler's middle name is Barrie Grin I didn't love it at all at first... but it's a family name for my husband's family, so I went with it. I actually like it quite a lot now tbh!

I do think a lot of names from that sort of era will be back within 10 years or so.

I genuinely really like Sharon 😬 I also think Sandra will be a trendy one in about ten years.

ClaraBean · 05/07/2023 22:03

Well, I kind of like it.
It's only one letter different from Harry which is and has been mega popular for ages. So the sound is already familiar, and I think it will be an easy one to make a comeback for that reason.
But my daughter is called Shirley, so don't listen to me 🤣

AutumnCrow · 05/07/2023 22:29

I love the name Shirley. It's a real pop star name.

I love the name Barry Bruce Trainer for the new one.

JuneOsborne · 06/07/2023 05:53

I was reading a thread the other day where a woman had met a man and hated his name. It was almost enough to put her off. His name was Barry.

VenusClapTrap · 06/07/2023 12:45

I know a baby Martin, and my cousin had a baby Roger. They do stand out amongst all the Noahs and Reubens. In a good way.

JaneJeffer · 06/07/2023 12:49

I used to work with a lovely man called Barry so I like it!

JaneJeffer · 06/07/2023 12:53

@AutumnCrow I wrote off for a signed photo of Barry Grant. I pretended to be my own dad, asking for it for my birthday.
🤣

A girl I know had a baby Roger a few month ago- I thought that was bad but Barry is something else.

Barry round here means 'brilliant' Roger means something rather more rude in one meaning or just associated with someone dodgy in another so I'd say Barry is actually far better 😅

Twattle · 06/07/2023 13:03

Barry from Eastenders and Barry from Extras

MrsMcisaCt · 06/07/2023 13:08

Nowt wrong with Barry. It's a proper name.

TinyTear · 06/07/2023 13:57

If he's as cute as his brother he'll own it.

Backstreets · 06/07/2023 14:31

Baby Baz, already a legend

ReadtheReviews · 06/07/2023 14:39

I suppose Americans don't have Welsh lorry drivers.

peaceinourtime · 13/07/2023 01:33

I don't understand the attraction of cute names like Alfie, yes they're cute as a name when the child is young but I don't necessarily think they age well .
