I live in Scotland/am Scottish, however my step mum and her family are Middle Eastern.

im considering an Arabic name for first or middle, so would like some suggestions.

I love Hiba.

Would like one with a good meaning, and one that works well in Arabic and English.

Although with boys’ biblical names, sometimes the Arabic and English version of the name differ a lot.

I like Samir. Just take care not to confuse Persian and Arabic names, they are different and there may be sensitivities.

Many good names suggested here!

I agree that Hiba is a lovely name.

Mervat is also a beautiful name for a girl.
I like the name Tareq/Tariq for a boy.

As previous poster said, you could use biblical names (but the Arabic version). Some will be similar, such as Musa for Moses, or Nuh for Noah but others might be quite different, such as Yunus (Jonah).

Similarly, Hawa (Eve) is a lovely name, or Maryam (Mary), Hajar (Hagar), Sara (Sarah) and so on.

Other names for boys:
Ali
Umar
Hamza
Sa'ud
Laith

Girls:
Zahra
Zohra
Warda
Layla
Jameela
Hana
Nura

Maryam, Zara and Sofia
Aran, Joseph and Laurence.

Why not use your step-mother's name as a second name?

I don’t want to go too obviously Arabic or Islamic, if that makes sense. Like bashir, it’s too much for me. Whereas Laith and Hiba are more subtle, to me at least anyway.

I just wanted some ideas so thank you guys.

im floating them with my step mum seeing what she thinks.

Laith is both an Arabic and Scottish name, something not many people know.

wutheringkites · 03/07/2023 21:14

I think Aran and Haris/Harris are good cross-over names
