Would you be annoyed if your best friend chose a similar baby name?

We’ve had our heart set on a baby name and become quite attached to it over the last few months, it’s probably the only name we both loved and agreed on 100%

However, my best friend just had a baby and the name they’ve chosen is coincidentally very similar, as in one letter deferent and rhymes.

think along the lines of
Daisy & Maisy
Cara & Lara
Eva & Ava
Ida & Ada
Minnie & Winnie
Lilly & Tilly

I can’t help thinking she might find it strange if we go ahead with the similar name, but feel very sad to let it go as we’ve become so used to calling bump this name in private & I feel emotional about letting it go.

Neither name is super popular.

what would you do?

My best mate named her child the opposite sex version of my daughters.... not quite the same admittedly but it has never bothered me even though they both have the same nickname.... its a name....

Wouldnt bother me. And most of those examples - they rhyme but they’re not similar. Loads of names rhyme

Go ahead and name your baby what you want. I think your friend done it on purpose! Also if next time you become pregnant just keep saying 'pugwash'🙂 ! I wonder if next time she will copy you!!

She might have had the baby now?

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

I have two cousins with very similar names (think Holly and Molly) and the same surname. They work for the same company. It's not a big issue.

A close friend and I have DGDs born very close together and with the same name and we just laughed about the fact that we both now had a little Axxxx

If I was you I’d speak to her, she’ll probably be understanding knowing you’ve had that name a while.

I had a few friends pregnant with girls due before me and I wouldn’t have minded if they gave their little ones similar or even the same name as mine but I was keen not to look like I’d copied if that was the case, so before we even knew what we were having I was telling people what names we’d settled on. None of them named their children anything similar anyway, however my ‘father’ (in the loosest sense of the word) did name his little girl who was born 8 weeks after mine something similar. Now that REALLY pissed me off 😂
