What do people think of the name Solenne? For a girl in the UK. Probably nicknamed Leni. Thanks!

I think Solenne is a really lovely name. I know one in the UK who has no issues with spelling, pronunciation etc.

I wouldn't shorten it though. Leni/Lenni is not great and not a very instinctive shortening.

Noooooo sounds like a brand of suntan lotion.

Lifeinlists · 19/10/2023 23:39

Doesn't matter because she's now Rosalie!

SkaneTos · 19/10/2023 23:40

I think Solenne is a beautiful name! I have never heard it before, but it's lovely.

LadyGAgain · 19/10/2023 23:49

Congratulations on your Rosalie. Beautiful name

SoundTheSirens · 19/10/2023 23:52

Rosalie is much preferable to Solenne, good choice OP! (And congratulations.)

Yes. It gives cleaning/ointment vibes in English.

It's not a name our ears are familiar with. And it sounds like something created in a brainstorming session. Sol for the sun, then ene for the product, like windolene. Lin as in lanolin. = suncream. The advertising guy got a bonus for that one.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 19/10/2023 23:57

Agree with pp it sounds like a suncream or something. The other thing that sprang to my mind was Soylent which I believe is some kind of American soya milk drink. Sorry just being honest.

I googled it and it's a meal replacement. I'm vegan so I drink quite a lot of soy products. Haven't tried this one though. Will have to give it a go.
The name sounds far far too similar though.
Solenne
Soylent

Ahhhhh am sorry I always do this on name threads I'm instantly reminded of something else.

There is a very famous dystopian novel. The population was fed something called 'soylent green'. It solved world hunger. Turns out they were processing dead human bodies into soylent green.

Wow haha and then despite this that company has chosen to use this as their brand name?! Surely they must be being ironic?!

SheilaFentiman · 20/10/2023 11:44

thanks @LylaLee

@Wavescrashingonthebeach I thought you were being sarcastic around the Soylent Green, hence the emojis!

If you’re French, go for it. If you’re not, leave well alone.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 20/10/2023 12:17

Gorgeous in French.

not so much in English. And a bit too close to solemn imo.
