How do you find Evina? Made up or ok?

And how would you spell it?

Eh-vina ? Or Ee-vina?

Made up, TBH.

Evelina? (Not if you live in south london, though.)

Palmtreesmiles · 12/06/2023 09:46

We live an hour away from the hospital, just outside south London. Would Evelina be ok on this basis? I thought of the hospital too, hence I thought of Evina!

Evina sounds sweet. All names were once made up. I'm sure hundreds of years ago some old busybodies once judged a mum for naming her son Oliver, and it's been popular for years!

You could also use Evanna, Irina, or Vanya.

KirstenBlest · 12/06/2023 12:05

Evina looks made up but you could shorten it to Evie, which is popular
Evelina is better if you don't mind the hospital link
Evita?

Palmtreesmiles · 12/06/2023 12:09

Evita is nice!

Would you say it Ee-vita or Eh-vita?

Same with Evina, how would you pronounce it?

Evina does look a bit made up. I think she'd get called Elvina a lot. I'm not sure if that's even a proper name but I can imagine people assuming there's an L after the E.

Evita is way too Perón and political. Can you imagine all the 'don't cry for me Argentinas' she'd get?

KirstenBlest · 12/06/2023 13:00

@Palmtreesmiles Eh-VEE-ta
It's a well-known name, and there's a musical.

SirTarquinius · 12/06/2023 13:07

I don't like Evina because to me it is obviously made up so I think it gives the impression of a product name or brand - like Evian or Evio.

Evelina I don't like because it makes me think of the children's hospital - also I'd be a bit weirdly superstitious about it - liek the child would end up there.

Evita - just no. You'd spend a life with people singing Andrew Lloyd Webber at you.

You could always go for Evadne....

It is not made up.

"As a Norwegian name, Evina is a form of Evin and carries the triumphant endearment of “happy warrior.” Evina also has Hebrew roots, derived from Eva, meaning “life,” “source of life,” and “mother of life” for parents searching for a beautiful appellation that embraces fertility and the miracle of life.

Evina is also a Kurdish name from the word evîn, meaning “love.” Evina, abundant in remarkable qualities and vast in origin, grants a worldly title for your victorious little warrior."

I like it it's pretty

SirTarquinius · 12/06/2023 13:22

@Reugny - thanks for that - didn't know.

I still think it sounds brand/corporate made up though because it's so unfamiliar.

Vexxa · 12/06/2023 13:34

How about Elvira?

Palmtreesmiles · 12/06/2023 13:44

I liked Elvira and Elvina!

Thanks for the comments on Evita, didn’t know all these associations.

Assuming all three names (Evita, Elvira, Elvina) are pronounced with an Eh and not an Ee sound in the Uk?

HoldingTheDoor · 12/06/2023 17:54

It's not awful but I'm not a fan. It sounds like someone who'd be announced as the U.K's entrant for the next Eurovision Song Contest.

drpet49 · 12/06/2023 18:14

Reminds me of the bottled water brand, Evian.

continentallentil · 12/06/2023 21:10

I think Evanna is nicer if you must but a) there are nicer names than either and b) she will end up one of a zillion Evies

How about Estella?

Elvira and Elvina are way worse

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/06/2023 23:58

Sound like a bottle of water to me.

Perfectlystill · 13/06/2023 00:01

Made up

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 13/06/2023 20:05

I like Elvira and Evanna.

user1492757084 · 14/06/2023 08:26

Do you like Java, Vanya, Sigrid (Ziggy) or Amal?

Monkeytapper · 14/06/2023 08:27

I have a friend caked Ewelina, pronounced Evenlina…she’s polish

Monkeytapper · 14/06/2023 08:27

*called

Gowlett · 14/06/2023 08:28

I’m seeing Evian. Sorry!

Monkeytapper · 14/06/2023 08:28

Sorry, I meant Ewelina, pronounced Evelina
