Or maybe the people who associate it with being council house and violence are uncultured themselves, hence the association.

I can't say Bianca with it sounding nice.

Marion probably for me although I'd never name my child it.

I don't know any Marinas. Lovely name.

I've only known Russian women called Marina

changeage · 09/06/2023 09:01

Yes, the sound of a name is what I think makes us like it too.

Mona.

Nerissa is Shakespearean, unusual and I also think elegant, with a nice sound.

But it's synonymous with Eastenders! And not for elegant, timeless or classic reasons!

This, unfortunately

Isadora

Popular in Eastern European countries, but definitely not out of place in places such as Italy, Spain, Portugal.... especially because Marina comes from Latin words. Also working in France, if french naming laws allow Italian names. Marine as in Marine Le Penn is definitely used.

Enid

DuchessOfSausage · 09/06/2023 12:54

It's nice but EastEnders.
Vanessa or Miranda?
not RTFT

wizzler · 09/06/2023 13:19

Zinnia?

Tulipblank · 09/06/2023 14:44

I'm probably older than the OP (my child bearing days are over) but all I can think of when I hear the name Marina is the "floozy" from Last of the Sunmer WineGrin

Blimey that's a bit of a reach and rather rude.
Eastenders comes to mind for quite a few posters and not Shakespeare and rather than admit that for a good chunk of the population the same will be true you decide we are all uncultured Blush

Eastenders and Shakespeare appeal to the same demographic in each of the time periods they were written in..... the rabble kept many a playhouse afloat

Dahlia is actually lovely.

Thanks for that one.

  • never hear that one around either.

Maybe because it's associated with the famous murder

@soddingspiderseason why would my Allegra have a brother called Austin?

I assume in your ignorance you failed to grasp that the car was an Austin Allegro

Stupid person

Bianca is the opposite of elegant in my opinion! It’s a Donna/Tracy type of name. When I think elegant, I think:

Claudia
Celine
Tabitha
Dorothea
Jemima
Oriana
Beatrice
Antonia

Things like this.
