Honest opinions please..
I have a son named Vincenzo (vinnie) and we are struggling to find another Italian boys name that we love.
My other Half likes Lorenzo, I also like the name but not sure if it sounds silly with my sons name??

Would love people’s thoughts and any name suggestions??

Are you Italian?

RuthW · 02/06/2023 12:24

Sounds lovely with your other child's name. Nn can be Lori.

Looking at Roman emperors...

Titus

Julian
Leo
Alexander

I do think Vincenzo and Lorenzo are too similar, sorry. You need to pick one which doesn’t end in -enzo. What about Alessandro, Leonardo, Ludovico, Luca, Luciano for other options with L?

Jessicapeano · 02/06/2023 12:42

No I’m not but my other half is.
this is my struggle, obviously by wanting another Italian name to compliment my sons I’m limiting my options. There’s lots of non italian names I like but wondering wether that would sound silly having one son with a full Italian name and then one not?? Am I over thinking this😂😂

that was my Initial thought, now I do like Leonardo shortened to Leo but not 100% on the whole name.
Can you chose a name based on its nickname even if your not as keen on the full name😂

Matteo is lovely

I don't think both have to be Italian, although if they are growing up in the UK it's a nice nod to their Italian heritage. My DDs have names from different cultures that don't "go" together at all, but that's fine, they're individuals not a set.

I think Vincenzo and Lorenzo are very similar - but Vinnie and Enzo (say) are different.

Plus, Vinnie isn't obviously Italian so you could use a British (or whatever) first time with an Italian middle name and then they'd both have an Italian influence in their full names but not day to day.

SilverOrchid · 02/06/2023 13:09

If DS is always Vinnie, then I think it’s fine. If he does sometimes go by Vincenzo then I think it’s a bit much to also have Lorenzo.

I don’t think you necessarily need another Italian name though - I wouldn’t think twice about say a Vincenzo and Lawrence or Vincenzo and Benjamin.

100% agree, I think in order for us to agree on a name we should just go for a name we both love regardless of it being Italian or not. I like what you said about them being individuals and not a set! And I think like you say having an Italian middle name can be the nod to their fathers family.

now here comes another question😂
can you give both your children the same middle name or is different better??

What about Domenico? Nickname could be either Dom (more English) or Nico (more Italian).

itssquidstella · 02/06/2023 13:21

I also think Victor/Vittorio is a fab name, and Vic and Vinnie is a great pairing.

Amdone123 · 02/06/2023 13:22

My friend's 3 daughters all have her 1st name as a middle name. I always thought it was a tad unusual, but each to their own.
My ds has the male form of my mum's name as a middle name ( so, Paul for Paula).
I've only got 1 child. If I'd had another, he / she would have another family member's name, but definitely not the same.

Marco
Giovanni (nn Gio)
Luca
Nicolo (nn Nic)
Roberto

I do think Lorenzo and Vincenzo are too similar really, especially as the Italian nickname for both tends to be Enzo. Though as your Vincenzo is a Vinnie, then I doubt anyone would make any Italian connection outside of the family. So a non Italian name would also be fine for n2

Muncha · 02/06/2023 15:41

Two enzo's sounds too much to me.

Luca is my favourite Italian name.

SnackQueen · 02/06/2023 16:06

We have Luca and Sebastiano in the Italian wing of our family. Love.

ourflagmeansdeath · 02/06/2023 17:55

Leo is fine on its own if you don't like Leonardo. I think Vincenzo and Lorenzo do have different starting sounds but most people will think you chose the 2nd sons name just to match which isn't great. I love Leo and Luca though, some of my favourite boy names.

MadeForThis · 02/06/2023 18:23

Stefano
Luca
Nico
Adriano

Vincenzo and ..
Raphael -Vinnie and Raf
Edoardo - Vinnie and Edo

twilighteaser · 03/06/2023 19:16

Alessandro or Alessio, both usually shortened to Ale. Vinnie & Ale sounds cute, the double 's' is instead of the X, so in English it would be shortened to Alex.

Whatisityoucantface · 03/06/2023 19:27

I went to catholic school so a few Italian boys knocking about! I remember an Alessandro, Carlo, Antonio, Riccardo, Nico, Marco, Paolo
