Are there lots of Freyas?

I love Freya but I've heard it's so popular. Checked dark greener and it's number 6.

The popularity does worry me as my friend hated being 1 of 4 Chloes in her class when we were at school.

Do you know a lot of Freyas... are there a few per class in your little one's school etc? 👀

Yes. Sorry but it's an overused, awfully dull name.

anon12093 · 01/06/2023 14:30

I know of 2. Ones 3 and the other is 12

itsgettingweird · 01/06/2023 14:39

I know 3.

Ones 18

Ones 11

Ones 5.

All 3 are actually also particularly nice girls with fabulous personalities.

continentallentil · 01/06/2023 21:57

Yes but I think more a few years ago than now.

I really liked it, but it’s so overdone now I don’t think anyone really notices it’s loveliness

Aphra any good? That’s similarly soft but strong (Aphra Ben was the first published woman playwright in the Uk

HollyGolightly4 · 01/06/2023 22:02

I love it- mine is 10 years old!

To the pp who said it's boring, surely it's a very interesting etymology?! The Norse gods aren't exactly dull.

CallingElfRescue · 01/06/2023 22:04

I have a Freya, and not a single other Freya in her school, or when she was at nursery, or at any clubs we've ever been to. I have heard other Freya's out and about at the park or wherever but we've never known another one. I love the name and so does she!

weebarra · 01/06/2023 22:06

I've got one. There's another one in her year at school but I don't know any others. She's 9 and we're in Scotland. Got to love a Norse goddess in a chariot drawn by cats!

BreviloquentBastard · 01/06/2023 22:11

My 15 year old is Freya, I've only ever met one other and that was back when I was in high school. She's the only one in her school, I think.

My husband wanted to go with Frøya, kind of wish we had sometimes just because Freya and Freja seem to have become much more popular in recent years. It's the same name but I like the look of Frøya more now. Ah well.

bobby81 · 02/06/2023 08:05

I know 3 but they've all left school now so I guess it's been popular for a while. I don't know any of school age & I have 2 secondary school aged DC. It's a lovely name, definitely use it if you like it.

Heckythump1 · 02/06/2023 08:09

There's a few in our school, but not loads. It's a lovely name though :) i've never met a bad Freya!

My DD's both have fairly popular names, eldest has another in her year, but not her class and two girls in her year with younger DD's name, they LOVE that they have the same name! They're only year 2 though and that might change if they're ever in the same class.
We've also met dogs with the same names as my girls, which they also both love :P

CharlieBoo · 02/06/2023 08:47

I only know two, both aged 14. Lovely name

Roselilly36 · 02/06/2023 08:49

I love Freya, gorgeous name, I only know one. None in my sons classes when they were at school. If you like it, go for it.

Glowly · 02/06/2023 08:55

Hmmmm, yeah seems very much dependent on location. We are in Scotland. I only know one adult Freya, and she is so bloody cool, she's given me a positive association with the name :)

I also like Louisa, but I'm worried it's 'old fashioned' because of the horror faces pulled by my gran when she asked me what names I liked (I learnt my lesson and haven't shared anything since!).

Just read Freya is no. 4 in Scotland, and no.1 in my council area 👀

Freya is a nice name and I only know one girl called it. However it may be really popular where you are.

I absolutely love Louisa - it’s massively underused right now.

Summertimesunshineandfizz · 02/06/2023 12:55

I have a Freya but she’s 28 now. I still love the name - definitely not a boring one. Named after Freya Stark and my Freya also loves to travel.

FreyafromLondon · 02/06/2023 13:15

Yes even more so in the last 10 years. My name was quite uncommon when I was a child

Snowfairyxx · 02/06/2023 14:10

I know there is a few in my daughter's school.
How about Faye instead?

crosstalk · 02/06/2023 14:56

@continentallentil

Aphra Behn also as a spy worked as Astrea and used it as a nom de plume.

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 02/06/2023 14:57

I have met quite a lot where I am. A lot in y7 - 8 type age range for some reason

Anewuser · 02/06/2023 14:58

Love Louisa, I don’t think it’s old fashioned at all. Only had 1 Louisa at our school in 10 years.

crosstalk · 02/06/2023 15:01

If not Freya why not Fritha? check the Nordic names online. Freya seems v popular in Norway and Iceland .....

TedLasto · 02/06/2023 15:05

I know two, primary school age (in the southeast). Popular but not wildly popular like Amelia or Ava/Eva/Evie/Ada etc

Tinybrother · 02/06/2023 15:07

Loads in my children’s school and nurseries. My children have very common names though, so I don’t see that as an issue

Spanielsarepainless · 02/06/2023 16:00

As in Air Freya...
