Something less popular...

So when I was pregnant with DS 5 years ago, we were certain we'd use the name Sienna if it were a girl. As he was a boy, we chose Oliver. We love this name but it is SO popular. I'm now expecting a girl and Sienna is still my favourite but it is also incredibly popular; there are two in DS's class!
I might still use it, but I'd ideally want something a bit less common.

What more unusual names have similar vibes?
My DH suggested Sierra, but I'm not sold on it.

I like Savannah but I can't think of any nice nicknames (Sienna would be CeCe for short).

Viennna?

Aquamarine1029 · 24/05/2023 16:47

Farrah

Struggling to see how CeCe is short for Sienna...if you like CeCe could she be Cecily? That was on our list and I still love it!

KnickerlessParsons · 24/05/2023 16:54

Or Vienna - just the two ns will do!

Yes I agree with this.

But also, does it have to have a nickname? If you did use Savannah, couldn't she just be Savannah?

DuchessOfSausage · 24/05/2023 17:07

@aSofaNearYou , it will almost certainly be shortened to Sav.

Kitcaterpillar · 24/05/2023 17:08

Sienna would be CeCe for short

If this is the level of link you need between name and nickname, I would say all names and all nicknames remain open to you.

babname · 24/05/2023 17:10

Haha, I know a little Sienna with a nickname CeCe (although maybe they would write it as SiSi). I don't think the link is that tenuous!

I appreciate the suggestions, I think DH has gotten fed up of name discussions by now.

He has vetoed Vienna but we both like Farrah!

I always check to see if DD's name is used on these threads - Savannah.

Her nicknames are Van, Vanna, Banana or Big Stink if that helps. She loves her name.

GeraltsBathtub · 24/05/2023 17:12

Cecilia for the nickname CeCe?

Yes that's true, I think people pretty much always start calling people by the first syllable of their name at some point or other, especially at school.

I was more addressing the premeditated "their nickname will be X" and whether it was really necessary, or a big factor in picking the name. I have the kind of name without a particular nickname like CeCe - the people really close to me do sometimes shorten it to the first syllable, but the vast, vast majority of the time people just say the full name. In terms of my kids, I have one of each, one with a nickname, one without.

@Un2Trois , I think Tamsin is lovely too. Not too long, not vowelly, not fussy.

BobbidyBibbidyBob · 24/05/2023 17:25

I have always wanted CeCe but for Celia, which is more unusual. Saraiya?

babname · 24/05/2023 17:26

We've actually talked about Cecelia as an option and both really like it but we don't like the meaning. It means 'blind', which I just find a bit off-putting.

@Un2Trois You are so on my vibe, I love the majority of these names. I agree Tamsin is really beautiful.
Felicity is my number 2 most favourite name (behind Sienna) but DH has said no. :(

Serena?

Newnamenewname109870 · 24/05/2023 17:39

Sienna is still a lovely name and although you now know a few, it’s still far less popular than Oliver. Lots of names are popular now but there is such a range that in another school, yours would be the only one.

Sienna is very popular.

What about Cecelia? So pretty and dignified.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 24/05/2023 17:59

India?

Classes change, people move away. My daughter started nursery as one of 4 across 2 classes with the same name. There's now three across the whole school and none in her year.

Use the name you love. You won't regret it.

CeCe isn't short for Sienna, that will be very confusing
