Baby names that sound biblical but aren’t

We already have a Nathaniel and are expecting DS2. All of the names we like are biblical (Zachary, Gabriel, Jonah) but we aren’t. I think one biblical name is fine but too probably gives an impression. It’s not a deal breaker but wondered if anyone had any suggestions that we might like?

I do not think Zachary is in the Bible if that helps - Zechariah is.

Honestly I’d just go with the biblical names - we have a family full of them and the only time it’s ever been commented on is at the registrars. Biblical names are so popular now I don’t think anyone bats an eyelid

Technically all of mine have Biblical names.
No one has ever commented about that.
They rhyme, what's worse.

Michael transcends a lot of cultures and myths, and bible. For a girl Rachel quite modern, Sarah timeless, Nina multicultural

I don't think Nathaniel is overtly biblical, so you could use any of your list (I prefer Zachary). I would notice Gabriel and Jonah together, but the other combos are fine imo.

villamariavintrapp · 25/05/2023 17:53

Josh(ua), Joe (Joseph), Sam(uel), Luke/Lucas, Jude, Noah etc sound a bit less religious to me, as they've been quite popular at times, so just sound like regular boy names rather than biblical as such..

OfMark87 · 25/05/2023 17:58

I have a Caleb, I think it's biblical but no one's every mentioned it

I would not assume Nathaniel and Zachary were biblically inspired. As a pp mentioned, I think it's Zechariah in the Bible, not Zachary.

I would wonder if you were Christians with Nathaniel and Jonah/Gabriel, but does it matter? I know other families of non-Christians who have adult children with names like Luke and Matthew, or Sarah and Rebecca, and it's caused no issues at all. Loads of biblical names are popular.

Aren’t these biblical names?

Velvian · 26/05/2023 10:50

Biblical names were surely names before the bible.
