Help, struggling with boys names

WeeSquishy · 22/05/2023 22:01

I feel like we have so many girls names that we both really like, but boys names are proving a nightmare.

Been through every ‘Top boys names 202X’ list on all corners of the internet but nothing has stuck yet.

The 3 we both feel we like most are:

Austin
Cooper
Jackson

I know the surname/American type name is not everyone’s cup of tea but we both said early on it’s something we really like

Whats anyone’s thoughts on these and can anyone recommend similar names that might give inspiration!

Austin is gorgeous and it's not just a surname. It has been used as a first name for well over 100 years.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/05/2023 22:43

I think Austin is nice enough
Jackson / Jack done to death
Cooper just doesn’t work in the UK (I do know a sweet American Cooper)

I always liked Walker

Harris is popular now, and Lincoln also. Sampson maybe? Ellis?

Scottish ones like Fraser, Campbell, Cameron

I would lay off Jenson which I think will be the Ryan of the early 20s

Other names that have a similar feel to me

Corin
Dashiell
Jerome
Lorcan
Lachlan
Gawain
Idris
Innes
Nathan
Stellan
Toren
Toben
Struan
Ronan (Roman and Roman also but done to death)

We very nearly called our son Austin. Other names we liked (although not necessarily surname/American style names) were
Felix
Lewis
Miles
Finn
Oliver
Jude

Surname style names I can think of are
Harrison
Ellis
Lennon
Grayson
Archer
Duncan
Dexter

Wyatt - Derived from the Old English name "Wigheard," meaning "brave in battle."
Beckett - Derived from the Old English name "Becc," meaning "brook" or "stream."
Lincoln - Derived from the English surname "Lincoln," meaning "lake colony."

Staying on the surname/style I like Fraser, Morgan and Ross.

I like Austin best from your list but they aren't really my style at all.

For surname as first name names I like Wyatt, Everett and Thatcher (but not in the UK obviously). Archer is quite nice too

Riverlee · 23/05/2023 11:17

Not keen on Jackson. Austin is lovely, and Cooper is a name I came across recently and is growing on me.

My grandfather's name is Bruce and I always thought it would be lovely if somebody would name their child Bruce just like my grandfather. All these years I never met a child named Bruce.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/05/2023 16:30

Austin
Cooper
Jackson

In that order for me. I probably would have liked Jackson more but with Jaxon becoming popular there could be issues with spelling and also it could be tied to the name which I feel will be a fad name.

kiwiwatermelonsugar · 23/05/2023 19:26

Austin is lovely imo. Jackson is okay but I'm not keen at all on Jack and I am not a fan of Cooper.

Swearwolf · 23/05/2023 19:33

I really like Austin. Jackson is more common than Cooper, if that makes a difference. I'd like to add Franklin and Vincent to the list!

Curlywurlybar · 23/05/2023 19:50

I have a little boy named Sullivan (Sully)

Thanks for the replies. Austin has always been our favourite too.

The only question I’ve always had is if it works with our surname. I really would like to choose it but need to make sure it’s right.

Our surname is Masson(pronounced mah-son, rhyming with pass-son)

ThomasinaLivesHere · 23/05/2023 20:59

It sounds fine with that surname. I don’t see any issues.

FayCarew · 24/05/2023 11:10

Of the three, Austin, because it is a first name.
Jackson Masson is too many sons
Cooper is too american for me.

With Austin and our surname, did you think of a famous car brand at all?
