Help me name our fourth boy

We have an Oliver (Ollie) Dylan and Alexander (Alex). DH vetoes most suggestions so we are basically left with a couple of names he doesn't hate.
Current list:
Edward (Ted/Teddy) my favourite but DH insists he'll get nn Eddie which I'm not keen on
James - maybe a bit boring and I don't like Jay
Elliott - like but don't love

Thoughts on these three or any suggestions?

James is lovely. How about Jamie or Jim?

Or Jimethy

Stabee · 22/05/2023 21:55

Or from another thread, Caleb!

maddiemookins16mum · 22/05/2023 21:56

Nathan.

Livingbestlife · 22/05/2023 22:05

Absolutely love Teddy xx

Crispymandm · 22/05/2023 22:10

I love Teddy

i think Stanly or Sidney would also be nice with those siblings names.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 22/05/2023 22:12

All the Edwards I know get called Ed rather than Eddie or Ted /Teddy.

Issac, Joseph or maybe Caleb!

User124534687 · 22/05/2023 22:13

I love Ted/Teddy and as a PP said, if you go with that NN, that’s what people will use. We have a DD with a particular nickname which isn’t necessarily the one you’d expect for that name and it has defo stuck.

A vote for Ted/Teddy from me!

Just bear in mind the nn you choose for your lo may not be the nn they choose to be known by when they get older.

My ds2 has a classic name and family know him as one thing, but amongst his friends he's known as a different common nn (which I don't like), but he says he prefers. Obviously I'll respect the fact he wants to be known by the other nn to his friends and he respects that I get "mother's perogotive" and the name i call him is special to family only).

Lonelylonelylonely · 22/05/2023 22:22

What names does your DH love?

SallyWD · 22/05/2023 22:22

I love Edward and James.

kiwiandcherries · 22/05/2023 21:17

Yes, Toby! That works well and I love the name

Tobias nn Toby or just Toby
Laurence nn Laurie
Dominic / Nicholas nn Nico
Sebastian / Seb
Gabriel / Gabe
Barnaby / Barnabas nn Toby
Elijah / Elisha nn Eli
Zachary
Patrick
Rufus
Issac
Corin
Kester
Miles
Rafe
Jude
Hugh

James is a bit overused and Edward/Teddy done to death. I’m not keen on Elliot personally

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/05/2023 23:16

Elliott seems a bit trendy/surname compared to Oliver and Alexander to me (as well as having spelling issues eg. Elliot).

Adore classic Edward and James though and I think they match really well. I agree though that many teenage or older Edward's seem to get shortened to Ed so you'd need to be prepared for that (although I don't think they necessarily get Eddie). Most James I've met these days don't have nicknames - although personally I love the medieval nn Jem for it.

I'd assume Alexander and Oliver's brother would have a similarly classic style name- if not Edward or James then likely William, Thomas, Henry, Samuel, Daniel, George, Charles or Joseph, or something like Nathaniel, Maximilian, Nicholas, Laurence, Benedict etc if you want to go less popular

James Edward or Edward James - both perfect.

cordelia16 · 23/05/2023 08:50

My son has a friend called Ted. Only found out recently that his full name is Edward, not Theodore. So you can definitely use Ted/Teddy rather than Ed/Eddie.

I like Edward and James better than Elliott.

KayEmAy · 23/05/2023 20:55

A tip I have for those dealing with the frequent vetoers, is a rule I made up. No free vetoes. In order to veto a name, a new one needs to be suggested in it's place. :)

If none can be provided, than you get to pick the name. Because honestly, I think it's better for you to have a name you love than to have one that he doesn't hate. lol

I love all your current boy names! Here are some other less common classics you may like for Ollie, Dylan, Alex and ...

Grant
Lance
Neil
Evan
Holden
Perry
Stefan
Quentin
Wells (Maxwell)
Tristan
Clark
Rory (Dorian)
Sterling
Forrest
Nathaniel
Cole
Cameron
Elijah
Patrick
Christopher
Denny (Alden)
Ren (Darren)
Nic (Nicholas/Dominic)
Jason
Jeremy
Clay /Clayton
Bellamy
Fitz (on it's own or for Fitzgerald)
Gavin
Ian (Julian)
Milo/Miles
Jesse

I was in your position last summer trying to come up with a name for our 4th boy! We went with Benjamin but one of my others is a James and he never gets called Jay, we actually mostly call him Jamesy! You’ll have to let us know what you go for 😃 welcome to the 4 boys club

Lolascolas80 · 23/05/2023 21:56

@KayEmAy that's such a good rule! I'm going to steal it!
@Magssss thank you! I'll definitely come back an update.
Going to go through the suggestions on this thread with DH following the new rule and see what we come up with. 😊
