Just curious, which spelling do you like best and why?

Katherine
Catherine
Kathryn

Katharine
Catharine
Cathryn

Do they give you different images or different personalities?

Also, which of these nicknames:

Kate, Katie
Kathy, Cathy
Kitty
Kit
Kat
other

I actually really like Kathy, is it too old fashioned?

I like Katherine or Catherine equally.
Kate or Katie best as NN. Kathy is more old fashioned, but nice.
Classic.

I personally dislike Kitty (juvenile) and Kat (harsh). But it’s a name with lots of nickname options, so a Katherine could take her pick! I have a friend called Katherine who is NN Kizzy, and know another Katherine who goes by Kit.

Kathryn and Kathy. Lovely.

DuchessOfSausage · 20/05/2023 10:55

Katherine, Katharine, Catherine - all fine
Kathryn, Cathryn - a bit 1960s
Catharine - no

Kate, Katie - fine, as is Katy
Kathy, Cathy - Cathy is lovely and due a revival, Kathy isn't
Kitty - ok
Kit - no
Kat, Cat - no
other

I prefer the spelling Catherine, unless the day-to-day name is going to be Kate/Katie, in which case I'd probably use Katharine

Ronniechops · 20/05/2023 11:11

We have a Katherine and we call her Kate. She hates Katherine & wishes we'd just called her Kate!! 😱

Lamelie · 20/05/2023 11:13

Non funky spelling full name- Catherine, Katherine or Caitlin and then she’ll grow into a nickname or you’ll use one naturally.

DuchessOfSausage · 20/05/2023 11:30

Not Caitlin, unless you are going to use the full name, and it seems dated.

Italiangreyhound · 20/05/2023 12:00

K not C and whatever nickname you like.

UsingChangeofName · 20/05/2023 13:15

I personally dislike Kitty (juvenile)

Personally I would say Kitty comes very much into the 'old lady nae' category. The 2 I know / knew are in their 90s and would be over 100 if still alive. Therefore fitting very much in with the Ivy / Reginald name group babies and toddlers have today. So - obviously we all have our tastes as to if we like a name or not, Kitty is very much an established adult name and will be again.

ourflagmeansdeath · 20/05/2023 18:09

My favourite would be Katherine - I think the K is so much nicer than the C. I like Kathryn too. Catherine and Cathryn are okay but like I said the K is better. And Katharine and Catharine are fine but would be misspelled a lot even though I have met one of each.

Favourite nickname would be Kathy as it comes more naturally with Katherine.

oldnorsesaga · 20/05/2023 18:16

I prefer Katherine, because it looks most elegant and somehow most complete.

fairycupcakes · 20/05/2023 22:45

Catherine (Cate) & Katherine (Kate) seem more classic to me. I don’t really like Cathy or Kathy. Cat/Kat or Kitty are quite cool though and the Kathryn spelling I suppose is a little “edgier”
I don’t like Cathryn and Catharine looks misspelt to me.

Findyourneutralspace · 20/05/2023 22:50

Katherine is my favourite name. I like Kate, Katie, Kitty and Kat.
I think Katherines can switch between them.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 20/05/2023 22:56

Katherine
I love Katie or Kate as nn

Vitriolinsanity · 21/05/2023 11:12

I know several Kat/Cats they are the type of girls you have crushes on at any age. Fun, sporty, no side.

Vitriolinsanity · 21/05/2023 11:15

Actually one of the Kay's I know is Katerina, she's Swedish which makes her even more cool. I love Sweden.
