Alliterative names?

We’re edging towards Hugo as a name for our son but the family name begins with H.

What do you think of alliteration in a name? It’s not something we’re purposely looking for. Does it end up sounding like a cartoon character?

It could sound a bit Marvel.
It depends on the two names. Hugo sounds a bit like 'You go' so a noun/verb surname might not work.

Surname isn’t Home but I see what you mean with Hugo. It isn’t a noun/verb

My son has an alliterative name, both begin with M, both two syllables. Sounds fine, never really even thought about it tbh. Go for it 🙂

As long as the surname isn’t too similar like hughes it’s fine

I think Hugo Hughes is OK. Hugo Heighway or Hugo Hunt not ok.

My husband’s first, middle and surname all begin with the same letter and imo opinion it’s a bit clunky.

The H on Hugo is softer though so assuming the H on your surname is a harder sound I think that will lessen the effect

I think that they sometimes sound fine.

Hugo Hughes is very Marvel because both names have H U G. Hugo Hill sounds better because the only shared letter is H

I think that different number of syllables also helps. Peter Parker doesn't work as as well as Miles Morales.

I love alliterative names precisely because they sound a little bit comic book-y. They're memorable. I didn't like any alliterative first names for my DD so I had to settle for the middle name starting with the same letter as the surname.

I like them. Like others say though it can depend on different factors like syllables and similarities in sounds.

I like them too. They are memorable. Charlie Chaplin, Rene Russo, Farah Fawcett are a few I can think of off the top of my head - great names.

Eldest daughter has .... I did mix it up with a middle name though! Ha

The 2nd letters are 2 different vowels though so create a different sound which I think makes it okay?

Either way I love her name and wouldn't change it! Ha

Depends on the surname I think!

Hugo Hughes, Hull, Hill or Hall probably not but Hugo Harris, Harrison, Henderson or Howard I’d say work fine.

My dd has an alliterative name - first name and first half of surname. The first two letters are the same even. No one has ever commented. I think it only sounds like a movie star if you are a movie star iyswim.

It helps that her first name is quite ordinary.

I use a nickname that turns my name into alliterative and again no one has ever mentioned that sounds odd (eg Liz from Elizabeth, surname also L)

If your surname is say like Hamilton, that goes well I think with Hugo

Hugo Horton is handsomely sweet on The Vicar of Dibley.
H.H. is fine.

Hugo Horton is sweet. Having said that Hugo Horton, Harris or Hamilton sound a bit like directions. Think Hugo Heathrow, change at Amsterdam...
