Ellis? For a boy

So I'm pregnant with a boy after having two girls! DH and I had never agreed on a boy's name, were convinced this was another DD who would've been Margot, middle name Anne.

Alas, it's a boy and we couldn't agree. I adore Alastair but he won't budge. He thinks it's poncy. He likes names I hate such as Billy.

The closest we can get to agree is on Ellis. If you heard the name, would you assume boy or girl? I really want a traditional but not popular name. Is it a good one?? I need reassurance 😁

Ellis is derived from the name Elijah/Elias, so It’s definitely a boys name.
I have known of a few, all male.
It’s a lovely name op.

Love it!

Not too keen on Ellis, I think Arthur is much better. What's the issue with it being popular? It's not like it's a fad name, it's classic and will age well.

I love Ellis (or Elis here). I like Billy. I hate Alastair

Love it! It would have been on my list for my son but a close family member’s partner is a (male) Ellis. Know a female Ellis mid 30s and always thought that was quite an unusual name. High absolutely lovely people!

also really like Elliott.

I think of it as a unisex name. There was an Ellis at DDs school, boy he’s 13 now and a friend of mine has a dd Ellis age 8.
