So I just wanted to hear your honest opinions on the name Eva. I appreciate all your opinions both negative and positive. Also, any middle name ideas?

Lovely name

PickledScrump · 19/04/2023 09:11

It’s fine as long as the popularity doesn’t put you off. Goes with all the Evie, Evelyn, Eve, Ava names that are really popular.

Hazelnuttella · 19/04/2023 09:12

I really like it.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 19/04/2023 09:36

Lovely name.

As pp have said there are a lot of very similar names which are very very popular. It's likely to be mistaken for the ubiquitous Ava from time to time.

Not if your surname is Smith, however, as undoubtedly GCSE students will still be flogging their way through An Inspector bloody Calls in seventeen years' time.

soddingspiderseason · 19/04/2023 09:40

It's a lovely name (I have a beautiful daughter called Eva so am biased). It means "life" and is a very old name, so I say go with it! If the popularity of it bothers you, Ava is a less well used option or possibly Evelyn?

Both of your suggestions are more popular than Eva! Ava is the fourth most popular name in England and Wales. It really is not a less well-used option I am afraid.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/04/2023 09:57

Nice name. Think I have a preference for evie But with Eva you also have the option to sometimes use evie or eve aswell. Personally popularity doesn’t bother me, there is a reason why names are popular.

Hazelnuttella · 19/04/2023 09:59

Eve is also very nice. But a bit biblical for me.

KirstenBlest · 19/04/2023 10:01

I don't like it at all, or Ava or Evelyn or Ivy.
Eve is nice but Evie, Eva, Ava, Evelyn and Ivy are too popular

there is a reason why names are popular - yes, fashion, and the names usually date badly

fairycupcakes · 19/04/2023 10:15

It’s a pretty name, as is Eve- as long as the popularity doesn’t put you off :)

Dependant on your surname perhaps a longer middle name would suit? My suggestions for you:

Eva Catherine
Eva Caroline
Eva Charlotte
Eva Lilian
Eva Eleanor
Eva Elizabeth
Eva Saffron
Eva Matilda
Eva Penelope
Eva Gabrielle
Eva Annabel
Eva Isabelle

Hopefully they give you some ideas :)

KnickerlessParsons · 19/04/2023 10:18

Overdone. Every other child is Eva/Ava/Evie etc these days.

WhatHoMarjorie · 19/04/2023 10:21

I love it. It's more elegant than Ava, Evie, Evelyn etc. More grown up.

StoatofDisarray · 19/04/2023 10:22

Love it.

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 19/04/2023 10:29

Lovely name. Be aware that alternative (valid) pronunciations are increasingly widespread. DD has two friends called Eva but one is eeva and the other is evva and I have to make a conscious effort to remember which is which.

Aoife is also very lovely but perhaps not the one if you don’t have Irish heritage.

SOMumm · 19/04/2023 10:44

very popular name, as is the Gaelic Aoife, sounds like Eefuh, a pretty, feminine name, Eve is also a popular middle name it seems -

shoopshoopdedoo · 19/04/2023 11:00

I like it. Works on a child and an adult, and in any situation really. Obviously very popular, but I wouldn't be too bothered by that if you love the name.

MyOtherUsernameIsDave · 19/04/2023 11:33

Really like it but so overused as every child seems to be an Eva/Evie/Ava/Evelyn all with Rose/May/Grace as a middle name.

user1492757084 · 22/04/2023 07:51

Eva is nice though too commonly used right now.
Do you like Genevieve?

MrsRickAstley · 22/04/2023 08:00

It's nice but overused

TheaBrandt · 22/04/2023 08:04

Sorry but soooooo bored of all Eve derivative names. Very generic. Pretty much every other girl round here is called an tupe Eve name. One to avoid she won’t thank you.

ReadtheReviews · 22/04/2023 08:15

It's ok. But 50% will say eeva. 50% will say ayva.
I say Eva myself as in Peron.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 22/04/2023 08:16

I don't like it. Bland.

cptartapp · 22/04/2023 08:18

Extremely bland.
Ten a penny.

Spanielsarepainless · 22/04/2023 08:20

I like it. It's good for an adult as well as a child, unlike many names. When I was a child there were four Davids in my class. It being popular doesn't matter.

Ilovedthe70s · 22/04/2023 08:27

It’s a lovely name and, for what it’s worth there are none in any of my grandkids primary school/nursery classes.
