Jack as middle name for Jude

lalalalalala123 · 18/04/2023 21:56

I really want Jack for sentimental reasons as a middle name but the only boys name I can settle on is Jude and I just don't think Jude jack sounds right... do people agree? Should I split it up with another middle name? Jude Henry jack for instance? Any suggestions welcome!!!

Split it up with another middle name, that will sound fine!

BlueMoonCity · 18/04/2023 21:59

Jude Jack sounds good (two of my favorite England players names so I'm biased!) And he could use the nickname JJ if he wanted! How often do you use the middle name anyway? If you like it then go for it! Smile

MarciaSaysANumber · 18/04/2023 23:29

No, it doesn’t sound good! It would sound as if you didn’t realise there are other names. All the parents in the playground would be side-eying you …

Jude Alexander Jack
Jude Sebastian Jack
Jude Oliver Jack
Anything …

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 18/04/2023 23:53

I have a Jude (it was the only boys name that I liked too) but can't imagine a Jude Jack. If you are dead set on Jack then maybe a Jack something could work.

That said - how often do any of us use or even acknowledge our middle names? My Jude is 13 and it's never once come up except in one of those jokey 'what's your middle name' conversations so maybe it's not such a huge deal.

I think it's also dependent on how many syllables your surname has as to what sounds right or doesn't.

TheGriffle · 18/04/2023 23:58

When I say it out loud it comes out as JooJack, they run into one another. Jude xxxx Jack would be much better if there’s another middle name you like that would go between them.

ImSoShiney · 19/04/2023 00:07

Hope your last name begins with a j 😁

fairycupcakes · 19/04/2023 00:37

I quite like it and it’s possibility to become JJ for his nn is lovely too.

If not then PPs suggestion of Jude Alexander Jack is great.

I’ll add:

Jude Stanley Jack
Jude Samuel Jack
Jude Ezra Jack
Jude Ethan Jack
Jude Arthur Jack
Jude Theodore Jack
Jude Fraser Jack

Judgyjudgy · 19/04/2023 00:39

Jack is a way nicer name. I'd do Jack for the first name. Jude Jack sounds weird, sorry! And he might get called JJ. Ew.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 19/04/2023 05:18

Jude jack really does not sound good. They are both short names so splitting it up with another in between us a good idea and works well

How would the parents at the playground know his middle name? I couldn’t tell you my DC’s friends’ middle names if you paid me. Middle names simply aren’t used day-to-day.

It might raise a smile at his wedding but that’s about it.

RobertaTheRotund · 19/04/2023 06:14

I don't think you hear the middle name out loud enough to make it an issue, but in all honesty, no I don't think Jude Jack sounds very nice. It's a bit gutteral like it's being vomited (sorry).

Jude something else Jack would be my choice, although I have two middle names and more than one nationality and this has actually caused a few (boring) issues for me. So if he's likely to have two or more nationalities just give him one mn

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/04/2023 06:19

I think Jude Jack is fine. Don't overthink it! No-one uses middle names anyway do they?

How on earth would the other parents in the playground know it? And if they're judging you on a middle name then they're probably best avoided anyway.

sashh · 19/04/2023 06:29

What about Jack Jude but use Jude as his name,

Sugarfree23 · 19/04/2023 06:41

Jude Jack just doesn't sound right.

Is Jack not short for something, Jonathan, John? Could you use the long version of it, although John wouldn't really sound much better.

Jonathan Jude would sound OK.

KirstenBlest · 19/04/2023 10:04

Call him Jack. I don't like Jude and the two names don't flow.

KirstenBlest · 19/04/2023 10:07

Jack is short for John, but is from Jacques, which is James or Jacob

CatOnTheChair · 19/04/2023 10:54

It's not great together, but if you love it, go for it.
Personally, I think you need a longer name between the two - like the Jude Alexander Jack suggestion.

skyfalldown · 19/04/2023 13:38

You're overthinking it, no one is ever referred to as Firstname Middlename outside of a cutesy Instagram pic when baby is born. He'll be referred to as Jude or Jude Surname for the next 80 years. Go for something that has meaning to you and nevermind the way it sounds or what others will think.

KirstenBlest · 19/04/2023 14:42

@skyfalldown , I'd normally agree, but in the event of there being two Judes with the same surname, they would probably use the middle name or initial too.

e.g. A school might have had two Lily Jones in the same year, but they might have been known as Lily Grace and Lily Louise.

I went to a school where there were duplicated full names in the same year, and know lots of people with the same Firstname Surname

Sugarfree23 · 19/04/2023 15:17

I also know a girl who needs to use her middle name at school.
My sister came through secondary known as Wee Jane their was also a Big Jane, they had the same surname but with different spellings.

Sugarfree23 · 19/04/2023 15:19

I've also worked somewhere with two men with the same name 2x Jim Smith and we also had a John Smith.

So don't assume that middle names won't be used.

KirstenBlest · 19/04/2023 19:27

A very popular first name and popular filler name is not great if the surname is a popular one too.
The duplicated names at school weren't necessarily of that pattern, but the first name (not necessarily the known as name) and surname were common.

Jude isn't all that common compared to say Noah or Theo, but sometimes names can be unusually popular in one area.

user1492757084 · 20/04/2023 06:16

Jack is nice. Why not use it as a first name?
It is more straight forward than Jude. I think a man would prefer to be named Jack.

Jack William Jude
Jack Benjamin Jude
Jack Frederick
Jack Tobias Jude

pilates · 20/04/2023 06:19

Yes split with another name

Elspethelf · 21/04/2023 07:07

Ahh my son has a name like this. Two four letter names beginning with M because the first name was a favorite and the middle name was a sentimental choice. We thought about putting Elliott in the middle but decided not to add filler. It’s fine, no one uses their middle name
