I prefer Bonnie
Robyn is nice but there is a lot of names beginning Ro that are very popular at the moment and it blends in a bit : Rory, Ronnie, Roman, Robyn, Rose, Rosie etc are all top names and still rising

emmathedilemma · 14/04/2023 12:41

I'm not a fan of either but Robyn is better. Bonnie feels like one of those names you'd need to live up to for it to suit and I can't imagine it on an adult. It's a name best kept for golden retrievers IMO.

Newusername123456 · 14/04/2023 13:20

Thanks so much for all your comments. Looks like Robyn is the general favourite and I hadn’t thought about Bonnie as a nickname for Robyn! Do you think that could work? We also like Bobby as a possible nn.

Do you think Robyn or Robin is better?

Thanks again!

I prefer Robin but commonly is used for a boy, spelt that way. It was on our list for our DD, but we weren't overly concerned with the gender neutral name/ people thinking she might be a boy. I do think that spelling is getting more popular for girls too now so it's poss not an issue.

millymae · 14/04/2023 13:54

Both names are lovely. I’d choose the one that goes best with your last name.
I worked with a Bonnie who was professionally qualified, highly respected and very well liked. Nobody thought the less of her because of her name so I can’t agree that it isn’t a name for an adult.

Newusername123456 · 14/04/2023 13:57

And would love any other suggestions you might have! Other names on our shortlist are:

Stella (I love but DH says it reminds him too much of the beer)
Margot (love but can no longer use as my sister has just had a Margot)
Zoe (really like but maybe too dated?)
Maggie (fear it is too close to Margot)
Astrid or Aster

@Asiatoyork did you go with Robin in the end? We’re really struggling to pick and, whilst I know a couple of adult Robin’s, I haven’t met any young ones for a long time.

@fairycupcakes I do really like Bonita but we have a very long surname and so hoping to find a short (1 or 2 syllable) name.

Robyn as Robin is traditionally male version

I have a cousin Robina in case you like that

PickledScrump · 14/04/2023 14:04

Bonnie definitely. It’s really beautiful. Robyn I find such an ugly name

emmathedilemma · 14/04/2023 14:06

Robyn for a girl, Robin for a boy.
I much prefer Stella and Zoe from your other options!

pancakesandpepsi · 14/04/2023 14:35

I prefer Robyn spelt like this for a girl.
Astrid and Bonnie are more to my taste though!

Asiatoyork · 14/04/2023 15:49

@Newusername123456 we actually went with the other name, but I would have been very happy with Robin too! We have quite similar taste in names I think - I like the rest of your list, particularly Astrid.

TrueScrumptious · 14/04/2023 18:00

I don’t like either at all. They’re in “unusable” territory for me. The other names on your short list are much better. I really like Stella.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 14/04/2023 18:09

Robyn would top bonnie for me

Justcashnosweets · 14/04/2023 18:25

Definitely Robyn. I've always thought of Bonnie as a dogs name!

Gingerlygreen · 14/04/2023 18:30

Robyn, it suits all ages whereas Bonnie doesn't sit right for anyone over the age of 10.

From your other list I like Zoe, also Aster is nice but much prefer Esther.

miniaturepixieonacid · 14/04/2023 22:06

I love Robyn. Also love Robin but for a boy, not a girl.

Bonnie is a bit meh to me. Cute but I wouldn't want it as a full name.

From your shortlist, I also love Astrid.

redyellowpinkbluegreen · 14/04/2023 22:09

Bonnie

Wishingiwastracytutor · 14/04/2023 22:20

Robyn ! Although I do know a Bonnie and she is one of the nicest people ever.
Also I always understood that Robyn was the spelling for females and Robin the spelling for males.

Robyn

MummyHopeful2 · 14/04/2023 22:31

Bonnie because there is absolutely no way of putting a middle name with Robyn without it sounding like ROBBING someone: -

Robyn Susan just sounds like Robbing Susan for example.

Bonnie is OK. I think Connie would be better, personally. I just happen to have a soft spot for Connie. There isn't actually anything wrong with Bonnie.

Lulabelleblue · 14/04/2023 22:58

Robyn

fortnumsfinest · 15/04/2023 10:28

I really liked Bonnie until we were having a discussion at work and a colleague suggested this name, to which another colleague asked "but what if they're not" and it really put me off.
We're in Scotland by the way so that may have made a difference, bonnie is used a lot to describe a cute baby
