Cassia or Willow

She will be here in a matter of days and we just can’t decide her name!

Our two options are:

Cassia Rose

Willow Hazel

(Cassia is pronounced “Cassy-ah”)

Send help! Thank you!

I think that cinnamon is bark? I’ve been in Sainsbury’s and seen packets of “Cassia” in the world foods aisle that looks exactly like cinnamon. Maybe it’s a special type of cinnamon. I just like the name! We’d probably shorten to Cassie the majority of the time

Hazel is a lovely name.

Mrsjayy · 07/04/2023 14:27

Yes Cinnamon is tree bark your right.

Mrsjayy · 07/04/2023 14:32

Sorry You're!

Cassia Willow is really good. Willow is very popular for children, cats, dogs and ponies. Cassia is much more unusual.

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 15:22

Both beautiful names, don’t think you can go wrong with either :)

KirstenBlest · 07/04/2023 15:38

Willow is a spread, Flora is a nicer name. Cassia is a spice.
Willow Hazel are two trees. Rose is a filler middle name and Cassia Rose sounds like a garden shrub.

Mrsjayy · 07/04/2023 15:40

Flora is also a spread 🤨

FTMUM2023 · 07/04/2023 15:42

When I was picking names for my LO I also imagined how they would if I was telling off lol. But also how people might shorten them.

Fundays12 · 07/04/2023 15:46

Cassia Willow is beautiful and unique.

shoopshoopdedoo · 07/04/2023 17:52

Love Cassia. I prefer Cassia Rose as I dislike Willow.

lulalulalula · 07/04/2023 18:00

Cassia! It's beautiful. It's actually a name for an entire genus of plants, including some really beautiful trees (Cassia Javanica as one example). I like both middle names but as long as you are ok with planty name combinations (and perhaps if your surname isn't oak or similar) it'll be fine.

fakeit2makeit · 07/04/2023 18:18

Haha! No, thankfully no planty associations with our very boring last name.

I think we’ve decided on Cassia Willow 😃. Most people won’t know that Cassia is plant related (thank you @lulalulalula for the insight!) so I doubt she would get banter for it. That would be the dullest banter I ever heard anyway!

This post has been super helpful, thank you everyone! (Except maybe the person who said that Willow is a spread and then suggested Flora 😂)

@fakeit2makeit , that was deliberate. Any thread about the name Flora gets posters saying it's a spread, but threads on Willow don't.

fakeit2makeit · 07/04/2023 18:33

I think because Willow and Flora are well established as names (and predating the spreads), it’s not really a problem. If we were considering calling her Utterly Butterly I would understand.

A lot of names have other meanings, if we restricted ourselves to those that don’t, I think we’d be pretty stumped (excuse pun I’m obsessed with trees).

Oak-kay

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/04/2023 20:00

Cassia 💯

Lovely underused name.

Cassia Hazel though, Rose is way overdone as a middle name

Willow is awful IMO - drippy and extra grim if she isn’t willowy

That’s because Willow marg isn’t anywhere near as well know though. Although I think Flora is a nice and well established name so it doesn’t matter.

sunshineandmango · 07/04/2023 20:09

@fakeit2makeit Cassia Willow is gorgeous, congratulations on your name choice :)
The Willow/Flora spread comments have me laugh (we are now considering Flora, DH’s current favourite). I had never heard of the Willow spread before this forum so I wouldn’t give that a second thought!
