Ezra

Ezra is a name I keep coming back too but it's quick rise in popularity does bother me a bit. Dds both have very unusual, but traditional names.

I've a really only ever met 2 Ezra's - one would be 7 now and one is two but it doesn't seem to be shooting up the charts. Is it a faddy name? Do you think it will date?

What are your thoughts on Ezra and how many do you know?

I love it. It’s top of my list for boy names. Yes it has got more popular in recent years when you look online etc but I don’t see it overtaking the current most popular boy’s names and in terms of becoming “outdated” or “faddy” name I guess we’ll never know, it’s not something we can anticipate too much. If it’s a name you love them I’d go for it, you won’t regret it from that perspective. Also just to add I don’t know of any Ezras and I currently have several nieces and nephews aged between 16 months and 8 years so a good range of ages and have been at all of their birthday parties with their little friends and no Ezras amongst them xx

I have one, so I may be biased here! It's definitely grown in popularity recently and I doubt it will continue to be popular in the long term. But I think it's a lovely name, and if you like it then why not go for it. It's a biblical name, so it can't really be called "faddy" but may wax and wane in popularity.

Well, the other figures prominent in establishing the Second Temple were Nehemiah and Zerubbabel, if you want more options.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/03/2023 11:50

I like it, and it after it burst onto the scene it doesn’t seem to have gone mega like Jude and Luca

I don’t think it will date badly.

stopeatingchocolate · 25/03/2023 13:26

I love it as a name and wanted it for my DS
Just consider Nick names I guess as they're inevitable!!

ourflagmeansdeath · 25/03/2023 13:27

I LOVE the name Ezra, one of my favourites.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/03/2023 13:57

I really like it

KirstenBlest · 25/03/2023 14:42

I don't like it. He'll be Ez. I think it's one of those names that isn't wildly popular (#51), but might be popular in some areas, compared with, say Oliver, which is distributed more evenly across the country.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/03/2023 15:19

Nope not keen.

Well, I doubt that there would be a danger of having 5 of those in their class at school!

Ezra is a lovely, biblical name. If you are worried that it's getting too popular, ask your MW or HV how many they gave in their books Wink

shoopshoopdedoo · 25/03/2023 21:25

I think it’s quite nice, but seems very trendy. Lots of little Ezras in baby classes I go to!

Howtolikeit · 25/03/2023 21:28

Great name

SueVineer · 25/03/2023 21:30

It’s a Jewish name so popular in the Jewish community

SecondhandMuck · 25/03/2023 21:33

I met my first one about three years ago and thought 'wow, Ezra. that's unusual'. Then I quickly met two or three more. It's definitely the new Noah.

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 25/03/2023 21:38

I really don't like it.

Sadiegirl87 · 26/03/2023 14:56

I like it, my friend has an Ezra and it's the only one Ive ever met and I work in a child focused field. If you like the name go for it, you'll be the one saying it all day 🙂

Saturnsmoon · 27/03/2023 02:00

This is one of my favourite boys names and has been for years. It’s only now that I am pregnant myself and looking into names that I’ve noticed it’s snuck into the top 100 which is a bit off putting to me. I don’t currently live in the UK and don’t think that where I live it will be or become particularly popular however I find it hard to judge its popularity in the UK from a distance and I would be upset if our friends and family there knew loads of little Ezra’s.

VenusClapTrap · 27/03/2023 06:19

I agree with pp that it’s the new Noah. It’s not as unusual as you think it is.
