Meeya for me

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 24/03/2023 01:46

Meeya - fab name - love it!

wishuponastar1988 · 24/03/2023 02:11

Mee-ya. Cute name but I prefer Maia (pronounced Maya)

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 24/03/2023 02:47

Mee-a

Sandysandwich · 24/03/2023 02:50

Meeya

lyla12 · 24/03/2023 03:07

Thank you all, I love this name and I would also pronounce as meeya but I have had a lot of people say they see this as maya

You can go either way depending on the derivation.

IME people learn how you pronounce it.

Pemba · 24/03/2023 04:57

This name is always said as Mee-a, surely?

octoberfarm · 24/03/2023 14:24

I'd pronounce it Mee-ya - if I saw Mya or Maya though I'd pronounce it My-a.

tregunamekoidestrecorumsatisdee · 24/03/2023 14:34

Meeya, I've never heard Mia pronounced any other way.

shoopshoopdedoo · 24/03/2023 15:27

To me, Mia = mee-ya

I’m never sure whether Maya should be my-ah or may-ah

SpinningFloppa · 24/03/2023 15:29

its mia and everyone will know that it is. Like tia is tee-ah not ty-ah

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 24/03/2023 15:50

I prefer the pronunciation my-a and that’s how I say it in my head but feel like meeya is more commonly used. Lots of names are pronounced different in different countries but I struggle with the name having two different pronounciations within the uk. But people should learn your pronunciation pretty quickly.

SecondhandMuck · 24/03/2023 15:56

I feel like I know 50 Mias under the age of 10. All of them are Mee-a.

Gufo · 24/03/2023 16:04

Lots of Mee-ya's in DD's year at school.

Twoinapod · 24/03/2023 17:34

Ive only ever known it said as mee-a I think everyone knows how to say it. Same as Tia or Nia

KirstenBlest · 24/03/2023 17:41

It's been very popular for 20 years, and is usually Mee-a

ourflagmeansdeath · 24/03/2023 19:16

It's always Meeya where I live. Nobody would say it as Myah - that would be either Mya, Maia or Maya (although people do say Maya as May-ah).

I think it's a good name but I don't like how it stands for Missing In Action

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/03/2023 20:57

Mee-uh

But My-uh seems to be more common

May-uh I’d expect to be spelt Maya or Maia

It’s had it’s day IMO

peaceinourtime · 28/03/2023 00:20

Mia is a too common name. Whenever I hear it i think it should be left at children born 2008 ish.

Mumuser124 · 28/03/2023 02:42

@peaceinourtime

My daughter Mia was born in
2006, I wish it was left there about. Had I have known it would become such a commonly used name, I may have reconsidered.

RosaCaramella · 28/03/2023 03:00

For Mia, I say Mee-ah.
(I’m Scottish so maybe different dialects have slightly different ways of pronouncing names.)

Mia is an Italian word that means “my”
Lovely name xx

mathanxiety · 28/03/2023 03:10

Mee-ah.

My-ah would be spelled Mya, imo.

I think there are a lot of spelling-challenged and pronunciation-challenged people around. Mia is a name that's been around forever, and there are famous Mias - Mia Farrow, Mia Tindall (grandchild of Princess Anne). I don't understand how anyone could get it wrong tbh.

pomegranatelover · 30/03/2023 08:59

I've only heard it pronounced mee-uh. It's a very popular name so I honestly can't see many people have trouble with it, except maybe older people who haven't encountered it before.

My-uh would be Maya or Maia.

HaggisBurger · 30/03/2023 09:01

Mee-ya. I like it but SO many Mias round here for last number of years.
