Is Carmie a girl or a boy name?

I absolutely love the name Carmie for a boy, but my hubby loves it for a girl. What do people think? Is it more suited to a girl or a boy? Could a grown man be a Carmie?

Sounds made up. Files with Kayden, Jayden et al.

Wallabyone · 21/03/2023 16:25

It sounds feminine to my ear, but it could be a shortening for Carmelo. It doesn't sound like a standalone name.

StamppotAndGravy · 21/03/2023 16:27

Could be Camille (kami) instead, for boy or girl. That's a real name

Thesearmsofmine · 21/03/2023 16:28

It sounds more like a nickname than an actual name to me. I would think it’s a nickname for Carmel.

Pemba · 21/03/2023 16:29

Never heard of it, on first impressions it does sound more feminine though.

I can't see what's particularly nice about it, although it's not horrible. I quite like Carmen or Carmel which Carmie could be short for I suppose.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 21/03/2023 16:31

What about Carmichael? You can call him Carmie when he’s little but he can always go by his full name or Mike/Michael when he’s older if he prefers.

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/03/2023 16:32

I would say feminine

WeCome1 · 21/03/2023 16:33

Makes me think of soap. And of a girl. It sounds 1950s American in a bad way.

Pibrea · 21/03/2023 16:36

No

ourflagmeansdeath · 21/03/2023 18:04

I'd think a girl. But it's not a very nice name either way in my opinion, sounds like barmy.

Gonnagetacatwhenimovein · 21/03/2023 18:17

dreadful

Twoinapod · 21/03/2023 18:37

It sounds like a feminine nickname, or a name for an anti anxiety medication

Tarantellah · 21/03/2023 18:41

I know a female Carmia and Carmen, so it sounds like a girls name to me.

dreadful

Yep. Please go back to the drawing board.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/03/2023 22:53

It does sound like a minor character from Married to the Mob, or a dressing for infection control.

Not as a full name, please..

Habreathmint · 21/03/2023 22:58

Neither. It's a chavvy made up name.

Neither. It's a chavvy made up name.

Well, it's not. As almost everyone on the thread has pointed out. It's a diminutive of lots of other names. Whether you like it or not. (I don't)

Do you use abusive language rooted in racist slurs for everything you're ignorant about?

I hear it as more feminine, though definitely a nick name.
I don't like it.
You might know a lovely person with that nick name so feel differently, of course.

MaireadMcSweeney · 22/03/2023 06:43

Neither but I would assume it's a feminine nickname not a masculine one
