Benedict or Benjamin?

Wondering which one I prefer - definitely will be Ben if its a boy but I prefer Dominic but DH hates it so Ben is all we can agree on.

Dominic is more unusual than Ben, put your foot down!!! And if Ben is all you can agree on why not just have it as Ben if its gonna be shortened anyway? Which does DH prefer of the 2?

Hmm I went to convent school and there were lots of jokes about nuns and priests called Benedict/Benedictus.
as in 'Benny dicked us'.

Sorry! But you have to consider the child's school days when considering names!

Benjamin I like.

When I was a teenager, I had a fantasy of having 6 children and two of their names were going to be Dominic and Benedict. Also, a good friend at primary school was called Benedict and a dear friend's son is Benedict.

So definitely, on all counts, Benedict. It means blessed if that helps you decide!

Yes, my brother got Bendy Dick! He could take it with a laugh though. Now he gets Ben.

Just Ben, is what i would choose. I am not keen on the other long versions.

i like both... was on my shortlist too.

i liked benedict coz it was a bit diffrent from the more common benjamin (and i dont do common arf)... but it does make me think of benedictine monks... which is a bit um, religious/odd for me.

not much help am i?

If he is called Benjamin, he will be nicknamed Bunny.

All names can be messed with, but if he is a Benedict, he will have the strength of character to resist the taunts!

We had a benedict at school and the teasing never let up! Bene DICK t was said alot, and just general sniggering because it sounds quite holy, but then that might have just been the wallys at our school.

I like Benjamin, agree that some people might think Benedict is a bit poncey.

Think just Ben on its own is lovely. No reason why you couldn't just call him that.

Dominic always reminds me of those 'big bad dom' adverts

oooh, DS's name never comes up (he is a Dominic - Dom for short), I also liked Benedict but DH was not convinced.

I prefer Benedict, sounds more grown up. If he is going to be called Ben as a child, then it gives him a more mature sounding name for later.

I like Dominic too.

I know a Reuben that gets shortened to Ben. That's a bit more unusual than Benjamin but has less ability for school teasing than Benedict.

My dog when I was growing up was called Benedict - what a posh dog we had!

I know two Benedicts- one is my son. Both of them are teenaged and go by "Ben" only, although mine is "Bene" (unfortuantely to rhyme with Benny) at home.
