We’re not finding out the gender of our first baby, we have a boy name picked but struggling for a girl! My partner likes Florence which I do really like but I don’t have my heart set on it! I really like old fashioned names, does anyone have any suggestions?☺️

My little girl is Eloise which I hadn't heard of in years and still haven't heard of any since her birth. Her middle name is lily which seems to be more familiar these days

I don’t think I’ve seen Marion, Hazel or Margot/Margaux mentioned - Marion modernised slightly by Marion Cotillard.

Pearl is also so pretty.

I also love Rose but would probably not use it personally as I can’t remember the last baby girl born who didn’t have it as their middle name. I think the fact Stacey Solomon named her little girl Rose about a year ago might mean it’s a popular name in schools in a few years’ time. But I also see where people are coming from when they say “So what if a name is popular?” I agree it does usually mean it’s a lovely name.

Congratulations, by the way!

By the way, have you tried Googling the top 100 or so names from, say, 1900 and other dates to see a really wide selection? Here they are from 1900:

Ivy is really common now - i would steer clear of that one.

Florence - gets shorted to Flo ( reminds me of periods!)

I love Mirabel, Maude, Charlotte, Sarah, Martha and Maggie ( just realised how many M's!)

Eloise is such a lovely name! Hadn't heard of one for ages and now my youngest has two in her pre-school class!
