Girl name struggles

Hi everyone, I’m an old member returning 7 years later as I’m pregnant with another babe after a big gap.

Im 4 months gone and we don’t know the sex as we want a surprise. But.. I really want to have some names ready beforehand as I like to be prepared. We have a boy name sorted which is my dad’s name but we can’t find any girls names we love.

We are very limited as we have a lot of nieces who were given nice names. I like names like Freya, Isabelle and Ava but I worry they won’t age well and will sound to young and girly on an adult. If you have daughters with any of these names do you feel they’ve aged well as they’ve grown?

Any similar suggestions welcome

I think those names will be commonplace among adults in 20 years!! Don’t think they sound particularly twee at all either. Similar suggestions

Eva
Ivy
Ada
Annabelle
Arabella
Olivia
Thea
Ella
Isla
Phoebe
Eliza

What's the boys name and is there a girl version of it?

NewlyDiabeticMum · 20/02/2023 17:09

Those names are fine but they’ll date massively as they are so overused. The playground is full of Ava/Isla/Evie/Freya/Isabelle/Amelia/Elsie/Ivy/Olivia’s, so it depends how much that bothers you. My DC have popular names although they weren’t at the time we chose them.

ourflagmeansdeath · 20/02/2023 17:09

If you like those names go for them. They will age well, there'll be quite a lot of them around. I love all 3, but I reckon my favourite has to be Freya.

ColdHandsHotHead · 20/02/2023 18:19

I don't think Isabelle will age, since it's been in use for about a thousand years.

KirstenBlest · 20/02/2023 20:00

The names you mentioned have been very popular for ages, so they'll probably date. They seem overused.

What is the boy's name you are thinking of using or if DC1 is a DD, what is her name?

Twoinapod · 20/02/2023 21:07

I have an Isabelle, she’s a teen now, always get comments on how nice her name is. I don’t think it will date as it’s been around for ages, more of a classic name.

Freya is lovely but is hugely popular, as is Ava. Isabelle was popular but is now declining in popularity as people think it’s too popular.

Arabella

Freya Stark seemed to cope pretty well as an adult, as does Freya North. See also Frey(j)a Norse goddess of all sorts of things ...

I know one in her 70s, one 18, and two 13. I'm not in the UK though!

@LostInTheColonies
You beat me to it! Was going to mention exactly those Freya references. All inspirational in their own ways.

OP, Freya is great. Classy, strong.
In real life, only know two. A 6 year old and a mid-20s.

Rosycampfireglow · 21/02/2023 06:09

Just remembered Freya Ridings (singer songwriter), late 20s.
Definitely not twee, her.
