Accidental alliteration

What is your opinion on alliterative sibsets? E.g Rosanna and Reuben?
DD is Rosanna/Rosie and one of the only names we can agree on for DS is Reuben

OP posts:

I think it's fine they are very different sounding names.

TheOriginalEmu · 14/02/2023 22:40

I don’t see a problem with it. I have friends who’s 3 kids all have the same first initial it wasn’t on purpose.

Soubriquet · 14/02/2023 22:42

Me and my sister had the same initials till I got married.

Now me and my dd have the same initials Grin

Hankthehonk · 14/02/2023 22:44

I am glad someone else is contemplating this! We never set out to be "matchy" but it seems we're drawn to R names, like you. Our DD is Rosa and several names on our list also start with R.
The alliteration wouldn't stop us doing it if we decide that's the right name! Rosanna and Reuben sound great together

Thought you were talking about your thread title

QueSyrahSyrah · 14/02/2023 22:47

Worked out alright for the Kardashians 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seriously though, now I think about it I know a few siblings with the same first initial and it's a non-issue (with the possible exception of post when they're old enough to receive their own but still live at home).

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 14/02/2023 22:48

It’s quite common, it’s fine as long as the names aren’t too similar. I do hate it when names are pretty much identical; I’ve taught a Simon & Simona and Nicholas & Nicola which I thought was a bit strange.

QueSyrahSyrah · 14/02/2023 22:49

In fact my brother and I are the same first initial, but I've always gone by a different initial nickname, so didn't even think of it to start with BlushGrin

I went to school with twins called Katy and Kathy, and also know siblings called Catherine and Katie. I find that odd!

FadoFado · 15/02/2023 14:09

I think two siblings with the same initial is fine. I wouldn't assume it's intentional. But once it's three or more kids with the same initial it seems too cutsie/naff.

Helenloveslee4eva · 15/02/2023 14:14

Bit twee but it means hand me downs can keep the same initial / surname tapes 😂and they will only be a “ sibset “ together until they leave home

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/02/2023 14:31

It's not something I'd actively choose to do but it's not a reason not to use a name you love. I know a family of four who all have the same initial, parents and children.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2023 23:58

Fine when they sound quite different like this. Might be mildly annoying with post but not a huge deal

Upatfiveam · 11/08/2023 06:23

Alliteration!?

So me and my wife are due soon, and we have only just agreed on a couple of boy names…

Our favourite being Harris or Harrison, paired with Horne as a surname; So full name would be Harris(son) Frederick Horne.

I prefer Harris as its sharper and rolls off the tongue easier… but that could be the shortened version?

Can’t decide if it’s clashing, or works? Any advice welcome! or it’s back to the drawing board

You’re probably best to start a new thread, posters tend to just reply to the OP so are going to give their replies about Reuben and Rosie.

Harrison Horne is a perfectly lovely name, don’t worry about the alliteration. I’d go Harrison over Harris.

user1492757084 · 11/08/2023 09:49

Rosie and Reuben sound fine.

Harrison Horne does too but Harris Horne sounds like you are saying Harrisorne - Harrison but saying the end extra long ....

DuchessOfSausage · 11/08/2023 13:27

It's a bit matchy matchy.
I thought alliteration was when you had something like Hannah Hunter, Reuben Robbins or Felix Phillips.

Upatfiveam · 11/08/2023 13:59

Apologies for accidentally jumping on the thread, but thanks for your replies

Rivermedway · 11/08/2023 14:04

That’s fine. It wouldn’t even cross my mind to judge someone for having children with the same initial.

Abbyant · 12/08/2023 09:01

Sounds fine to me we’ve got Abigail and Anthony.
