Youngest sister and kids advice not to name my baby...

Fell in love with the name Annamae. (Anna runs in family for generations) Kids advice me not to name my baby girl Annamae as it's sounds like anime and they say she would be bullied. I like the twist on the name Anna as I would like to keep the tradition. What do u guys think? I have no other names in mind. Suggestions welcome

Very American Deep South hillbilly. Don’t saddle your child with such an awful name.

soundsofthesixties · 13/02/2023 13:35

Just Anna, a beautiful name.

amonsteronthehill · 13/02/2023 13:38

Anna
Annalise
Annalee
Annamaria
Hannah
Anika

What about Anya or Ava. Anna is very nice just on it's own or with Mae as a middle name.

Nice.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 13/02/2023 17:38

Annamae is not good. How about Annika?

Ponderingwindow · 13/02/2023 17:45

It is a name that will either be linked to a very particular stereotype of a poor southern american
or
it will be linked to anime which can’t be separated from heavily sexualized version of anime. I know because I have a teen who is into drawing, especially figure drawing, even good quality supplies I buy her often come with sexualized imagery in the handy package insets they include

Puffykins · 13/02/2023 18:09

I had a friend called Annalie when I was little - apparently it means Grace.

I can tell you the one I know is
linked to neither of those things. People have weird ideas of what other people will think on mumsnet.

romdowa · 13/02/2023 18:18

Why not just Anna? It's a beautiful, simple, classic name.

Yika · 13/02/2023 18:24

I find it quite pretty, but think I would make it two words to make it more classic / versatile. So Anna Mae.

ivartheboneless · 13/02/2023 18:41

My DD is called Anna May. I love her name.
She is named after both her great grandmothers.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 13/02/2023 18:41

Annalise is WAY nicer op.

ivartheboneless · 13/02/2023 18:43

Forgot to say she is always just called Anna, we gave her May as her middle name

heinztomatosoup · 13/02/2023 19:03

Makes me think of Tina Turner!

ididntwanttodoit · 13/02/2023 19:05

don't overthink it. if you like it, go for it. sounds fine to me.

Takemehomeagain · 13/02/2023 19:13

You could go with Anna Mary if Marie isn't an option. Alannah May is lovely too.

I love it reminded me straight away of anna mae on 'how to get away with murder' I think its annalise's mum who calls her Anna mae

I knew it reminded me of something! Because of this I can only hear it in a Deep South American accent.

I don’t like being the one to say it but two names together sounds a bit cheap to me… probably my problem not anyone else’s but maybe you appreciate honesty.

An1ta · 13/02/2023 22:52

That's what I don't want.

I'm thinking about it I'm just sure if it's going to suit a mixes race baby.

My first DD is Izabela. I was thinking about naming my the baby a name ending with bela as well but can't find anything that I'd really like. Annabela is not an option for me.

Sorry but that's a stupid comment.

A mixed race baby can be any mixture of races and can be called any name.

Oh and I know women called Anna, Anya, Annalise, Anna Marie, Annabelle, Arabelle, Annika, Antoinette and Ida.

Some of these women are mixed race.

An1ta · 13/02/2023 23:41

This wasn't supposed to be a racist or stupid comment. I can simply picture my baby and don't think the name would fit.

They’re right. I can see why you like it as a name, but anime is a big thing that’s not going away. Listen to your family.

MrsRosieBrew · 13/02/2023 23:47

I don’t like it joined together. I’d go for Anna Mae. Both pretty names but not joined together.
