Just had a little boy had really struggling to think of a name
Every name I think is nice I talk myself out of or over i think
Anybody else ???
I feel the longer he has no name the worse it will get
I want a strong name not too popular but not too out there ?

It’s so hard because you want a “perfect” name and so many people overthink it. Honestly, just go with a name you love, or have always loved, or instantly caught your attention. It doesn’t matter if it’s Jack, Hugo or Balthazar. Just make sure he doesn’t have initials that spell something like BUM or a name like Robin Hood or Harry Potter.

Honestly, the longer you leave it the harder it gets. What’s your gut reaction before you started talking yourself out of it?

Call him august

or hector

or Lucas

DrMarciaFieldstone · 07/02/2023 18:06

Vinny

Aaron

James

Aidan

Reid

I personally like the abbreviated versions of more “sensible” names. Like Seb (Sebastian), Woody (Edward), Bertie (Albert), Ted (Theodore).

My mum always said a boys name should be suitable to shout across a crowded bar. Maybe use that as your name test?

@BookwormButNoTime ·
Thankyou that's really good advice

Going to start shouting a few options !!!

I love Cassius or Cassian but lost confidence
Love nick name Cass
Love Theodore but feel it might be safe option
Love Teddy but worried about when he's older

If you love these you should go with one of them. They are lovely names. Don't overthink it. Whatever name you give him, he will grow into it and then you won't be able to imagine him being anything else.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 07/02/2023 18:28

Asher, Casper, Adam, Ashley, Miles.

Smilesarecontagious · 07/02/2023 18:34

@otterlyr thankyou you're absolutely right he will grow into it
Thanks for that 🙂

I would avoid the current trend of cutesy names - Teddie, Albie, Alfie etc as I think they are already starting to sound dated. I also don't think many grown men like to be called by such babyish names.

Our sons have underused classics along the lines of

Magnus
Quentin
Christopher
Caspar

Congratulations btw.

Pinkdafodils · yes I think your right thanks

@Smilesarecontagious

Cassius/Cassian nn Cas is lovely and the least popular of your shortlist if that matters. The only Cas I ever met was a lovely young man.

Theodore is also lovely and a common nickname for this is Teddy but they can be Ted or Theo too (more suitably for for grown up)

go for whichever you want but I wouldn’t go for Teddy as a full name.

Smilesarecontagious · 07/02/2023 20:19

@PrimarilyParented T
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts

"Cassius/Cassian nn Cas is lovely and the least popular of your shortlist if that matters. The only Cas I ever met was a lovely young man."

I think I will go for one of these just lost my confidence
Sometimes just need a little reassurance so thankyou ☺️

Theodore is very nice, with Teddy as a nick name option.

May I also suggest Jasper.

funnyoldonion · 07/02/2023 20:29

Call him Cassius it’s great! My friend has a Cassius Rueben, he is about 18 now and has suited him at every age! It’s strong and unique but not too out there! Congratulations :)

What sounds better with your surname Cassius Theodore or Theodore Cassius? Or a J middle name as wee CJ or wee TJ sound cute! Congratulations btw!

Smilesarecontagious · 07/02/2023 20:52

How funny I was actually thinking of j middle names so I have the option of CJ 😀😀

Call him Cassius. Great name. It's normal to lose your confidence a bit after you've just had a baby - when you feel more like yourself and your confidence has returned you'll be really happy you stuck with it!

Whatames · 07/02/2023 20:58

I love Cassius nickname Cass. It’s unusual but not out there. The other names are nice to but Cassius is special

Twoinapod · 07/02/2023 20:58

Go for Cassian it’s a great, strong name, easier for people to say than Cassius which is very ‘S’ heavy. Still get the nn Cass. Don’t doubt yourself. Honestly it does take a while to get used to calling a new baby by their name, but after a while you can’t imagine them being anything else.

Smilesarecontagious · 07/02/2023 20:59

@Minkpink ·
Thanks for the reassurance
He's only 3 days old had a complete wobble but feel so much better
