I keep seeing this come up in lists of suggested names.

Has anyone actually chosen it for their DD? If so, do you call them Penelope or Penny?

I know that the name has been around forever. I've come across it (very infrequently) in baptisms etc in church registers from the 1700s. It seems it was at its most popular in the very early 1960s when it peaked at something like the 54th most popular girl's name in E+W. But Penelope is quite a mouthful and no-one knows how to pronounce it!

So - thoughts?

(DOI. Guess!)

My daughter is a Penelope. I love Penny and Nell so don’t mind if she uses those when she’s older. Penny-loap just makes me laugh, it’s easily corrected. But then I have two fancy foreign surnames that have been mangled my whole life so I’m sort of inured to it all.

No one know how to pronounce Penelope? Who are these people that you know? Obvs different countries pronounce it differently, but isn’t the standard British pronunciation well known? Anyway, I really do like it.

Love it! My DD was nearly one - going to use the nickname pea

I used to know a little Loppy which was cute for a toddler but I don't know if she reverted to Penelope or Penny as she got older.

I love it, it is our daughters middle name. I'd go for Poppy as a nick name.

Lovely name - classic, beautiful and not overused.

I've known five - two known as Penny, two known as Penelope and one as Poppy.
