If we like Frieda, what else might we like?

We have Nancy, Otto and Isaac already and would like the Germanic connection. Frieda the forerunner for this one but what else might we be missing? And does Frieda work?

Just re read you wanted a Germanic connection!
How about:

Gisela
Ingrid
Isolde
Judith
Lisbet
Lorelei
Lotte
Sigfrida
Ronja

Astrid and Heidi both come to mind. These are all gorgeous names!

AnotherSpare · 25/01/2023 10:22

Agnes, Elsa, Hilda, Linnea, Sigrid.

I would go with Frieda though, it's a brilliant name!

I don’t really have any better suggestions than has already been said but I just wanted to say that I love all your names and I think Frida goes perfectly for the fourth

Truly some great names on this thread!

I love Frida, it was on our list. Most of the others we also considered have been mentioned on this thread already, but at the risk of repeating they were:

Agnes
Ingrid
Elke
Ilse
Hester
Greta
Astrid
Greer
Ursula
Ebba

... and we went with Enid in the end.

I like Frieda, lovely name. Makes me think of Frida Kahlo which I think is a good connection even though spelt differently.

telllaura · 25/01/2023 12:04

Thank you for the reassurance! I think I just wanted to check we hadn’t missed anything I might love. So many other names I also love on here but I feel like Frida/Frieda it will be - just need to pin down the preferred spelling of it; as an English teacher pedant I have researched thoroughly and all are legitimate.

The only one I know is spelt Freda. Seems simple enough as a spelling, no confusion over where to put an i.

DorisParchment · 25/01/2023 14:45

One of my family names! May I offer:

Minna
Elsa
Tauba
Hedwig (maybe not - angry inch reference)
Annelies
Adelheid

Frieda sounds like the name for a cow to me. I was just looking at German names and my favourite listed was Leonie.

Frieda is the correct german spelling coming from ' Frieden' which means peace.

AnotherSpare · 25/01/2023 19:47

@schnubbins But the name derives from other origins too, for example the old Norse Friða, and as the female variant of the ancient English Alfred. So any version of spelling can be fine.

Frieda is lovely - and I’d go for that spelling. The other name that immediately sprang to mind for me was Astrid.

somedayxx · 25/01/2023 20:34

My niece is called Sadie and I adore the name! Love Frieda too! x

ThatshallotBaby · 25/01/2023 20:39

I love the name Silke. Silk-a.
Also like Marta.
Frieda is lovely too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/01/2023 21:41

I like Frieda

Thora springs to mind

May09Bump · 25/01/2023 21:44

I'd go for Frieda - I've known two from older generations and they have both been lovely strong kind women, so I'm bias.

Vexxa · 27/01/2023 09:52

Martha

LightHousePanda · 27/01/2023 10:26

I've never thought of this name before but it's really nice and I might add to mu list... Personally, I prefer the Frida spelling as it's clearer to me and plus Frida Kahlo is a cool connection, but if you're going for German names then perhaps sticking to the traditional spellings is good. Also, I notice that typing in Frida spell check wants it corrected to Friday 😂
