Name Ida

A friend has named her baby girl Ida. I think it's awful, just so old fashioned. What do you think?

Awful name. It was my MiLs name and she hated it and was always known by another name.

I think it is a lovely name. Wonder if we know the same person. It will definitely not be a name where there are multiples in the same class

It just reminds me of little old ladies with cauliflower perms!

Bit weird to start a thread with 'I hate this name" Everyone has named they hate/dislike particularly if the name is associated with an unpleasant individual.

Old ladies and old mens names are back in fashion.

If the person could be 95 or above if they were alive their name is probably back in.

I'm not sure a teenager would thank you for calling her Ida. No matter how on trend you think you are now.

It's super popular in several Scandi countries. And I think of trail blazing director Ida Lupino. Cool name.

I think it's quite on trend. It's an old lady name having a revival, like so many others. I really like it. I also like Frida.

I would normally expect it to be pronounced 'eye-da' the usual British way (and American maybe?). 'ee-da' is from continental Europe I think.

I do quite like it, pretty and simple. Similar to Ada which is fashionable now, but I prefer Ida.

Names like this are fashionable again...Ida, Ava, Eve, Ivy...it wouldn't stand out as an old fashioned name if you used it today.

Tonnes of Ida, Ada, Eva, Ava type names round here. Doesn’t sound old lady to me, sounds like a toddler whose mom is a hipster and crochets in her spare time.

I think it's nice. I wouldn't choose it myself but it's different in a good way. As for it being an "old lady" name - Isabella and Amelia used to be considered "old lady" names too. Young people aren't going to know about the older connotations.
