How can you love a name without knowing how it’s pronounced?

I’m in Ireland and it’s not a name I’m familiar with.

She read it in a novel and has not yet realized that it is a made up name.

Hey OP - I also love this name and don't love the Ayla spelling. BUT I am Irish, living in Ireland, and I've had to reason with myself. There are a number of ways you could spell this that would be phonetically correct (the one you've given and either Aodhla or Éile) but it really just isn't an Irish name (although éile does seem to have some historical basis). If that doesn't bother you though then the spelling you have for the name Ay-la does work. You could consiider Éabha (ay-va) which is in the same ballpark and definitely is an Irish name or Étain (ay-tawn)

Other established names were once made up for a novel.
Lorna, Wendy, there must be many more.

This name is so amorphous. No one will get the accent on the correct letter. It sounds like Ayla or Isla. Ish.
