I don’t know if we’re having a boy or girl but if it’s a girl I am due in July so it fits … any thoughts?

Wondering if it’s too ‘young’ and conjures images of a young girl dreamy on the balcony in Verona.

It's not that often I see someone on here suggest a name and everyone likes it!
I know a Juliette. She is 8, and a lovely girl, and it suits her perfectly.

Slimjimtobe · 20/01/2023 22:45

So elegant and pretty

ElizabethBest · 20/01/2023 22:49

Umm…..

Juliet
TempsPerdu · 20/01/2023 23:29

It’s beautiful - elegant and timeless. I’ve no idea why it isn’t more popular (#640 in England and Wales in 2021).

Completely agree. It's lovely

Verbena17 · 20/01/2023 23:39

Love it but I think I prefer Juliette.

crimsonpeak · 20/01/2023 23:41

Love it. It’s my DD’s middle name and was almost her first.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2023 23:41

It's gorgeous.

I pronounce it with the stress on the first syllable.

Juliette has the stress on the last syllable.

everythingsapickle · 21/01/2023 00:28

Lovely!

RuthW · 21/01/2023 10:11

Lovely. I know a four year old Juliet

CakeCrumbs44 · 21/01/2023 10:14

Beautiful name. I would have chosen it for my daughter except half my husband's family drop their Ts so that would have annoyed me!

KirstenBlest · 21/01/2023 12:16

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/01/2023 21:35

I think in the UK it is always the latter, and almost always even if you spell it Juliette

I disagree. I think it is said as JU-li-et, but some will say it as JOOL-yet and some as Julie-ET. cf. Eleanor - EL-en-or, Ellin-uh or Ellen-OR

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 21/01/2023 12:23

My daughter is named Juliette and she loves it. Its a classic name so everyone knows how to say it but it's not at all common so she is the only one at school.
I chose to spell it the French way as we have French backgrounds but she doesn't have any problems with anyone spelling it. It's a nice feminine name.

sum1 · 21/01/2023 12:32

I'm a Julie

I don't like Juliet at all. Seriously poncy. I've banned adult DC from naming any child Juliet if it's supposed to be after me (unless I've passed away already in which case I can't care). Julia I like but Juliet is self evidently poncy in the worst way, in my mind.

ps: I'm aware of low opinion MNers have of my name. Just remember that, Juliet is 1 letter away from a name people are eager to call awful.

Misplacedthekey · 21/01/2023 12:37

That’s true of a few names though. My own is one letter away from another name which changes the pronunciation quite a lot.

i don’t mind Julie particularly, it’s just a bit dated.

JoyPeaceHealth · 21/01/2023 12:38

Eh
I like Julie too, it's a pretty sound but like my own name it's a bit dated. I gave one of my dc a dated name though. I like it, it's been unusual so far. My dc never meets another under 50.
It's just fashion isn't it.
Louise / Louise
Claire / Clara

JoyPeaceHealth · 21/01/2023 12:39

That should say Louisa, my phone struggled with me typing louisa

ThomasinaLivesHere · 21/01/2023 12:40

I like the name Juliet. It’s a consideration for my list. The only slightly negative thing is the Shakespeare character. It’s strange that people always bring up what a tragic figure Ophelia is but no one says much about Juliet who is surely worse in that she’s a main character.

JoyPeaceHealth · 21/01/2023 12:44

True, it must be because we all know a couple of juliets, it only makes me think of the shakespearian character if somebody makes the association
But ophelia is a lot rarer

KirstenBlest · 21/01/2023 12:50

@JoyPeaceHealth , I know one Ophelia, no Juliets and one Juliette.

popopop · 21/01/2023 13:01

It's beautiful. I'd love to call my DD Juliet but DH won't entertain the idea. It's timeless and classic.

Findyourneutralspace · 21/01/2023 13:04

It’s beautiful and was on my list of I’d had a girl. I’ve met two IRL, both adults. Both wore it well.

yoshiblue · 21/01/2023 13:06

I've always liked Juliet but probably spelt Juliette.

I wonder if it will be shortened to Jules, so bear that in mind

Good thing I didn’t share my DDs first name. Utterly poncy in your eyes I’m sure! Happy to be so. My DDs name, including her middle name of Juliet, is absolutely gorgeous. Classy and beautiful. Sorry that you were lumbered with Julie.

sum1 · 21/01/2023 15:44

I said:

PP replied: Sorry that you were lumbered with Julie.

My point proven. About the eagerness, I mean. I chose my name, btw. My parents never chose it. I have legal right to use another name that probably gets the "elegant classic" description from MNers. Yet I prefer my name.

it's good, OP, that you are confident in your own choice
