Zoë?

Hello!

What are your thoughts on the name Zoë?

I love the meaning of Zoë and, whilst I know a few in their 30s and 40s, I have not met many little ones.

A classic or a little dated? How common is it in your area?

Thanks in advance!

Nice name.

Just be aware it's also the name of an app.

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 13:32

It's fine.

Girlintheframe · 17/01/2023 13:39

It's a classic name but I'm not keen on that spelling I prefer it with a y

TheNinjaWife · 17/01/2023 13:46

It’s a lovely name with a lovely meaning. I like it spelt with the 2 dots over the E.

Bananalanacake · 17/01/2023 13:58

It's the name of my car, but I like the name so go for it.

toastofthetown · 17/01/2023 14:06

Zoe feels a little dated to me. I know a lot of Zoes my own age, but no young Zoes. It’s not badly dated but if I saw a woman and her toddler and knew one was called Zoe, I’d assume it was the mother. I also associate the name strongly with the company who monitored Covid symptoms and do many other health and nutrition studies. Zoe is a growing company so it’s something I’d want to be aware of, even it if didn’t put me off the name in the end.

JimJamJolly · 17/01/2023 14:15

I know 3 Zoe's aged between 5 and 14

HedgehogOBrian · 17/01/2023 14:16

I love it but the covid app has ruined it for me a bit

Meant to add... And another friend would have called her daughter Zoe, but she had boys.

I really like the name.

TeenDivided · 17/01/2023 14:24

I like it. Slightly funky.
I know 3 Zoes aged 16, 18 and 22.

I know it is more correct with the double dots, but in the UK most people don't know how to put accents on letters when typing. So you'd need to decide to go with the flow if you had the dots and people missed them out (or if you went without them and a few people decided they knew better than you.)

Username6194 · 17/01/2023 14:24

Haven't thought of the name for years. Never heard it on a little one and now questioning why. It's a beautifully sounding name

ouch321 · 17/01/2023 14:34

Never met one.

But I would put plain Zoe otherwise passports form filljng etc a nightmare

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/01/2023 14:39

Love it. Not especially common nationally but we seem to live in a little pocket of popularity as we know five under the age of ten. All of the families have international heritage or connections and it is a popular choice internationally, I suppose because the pronunciation doesn't vary much between languages.

I would personally use the diaeresis, Zoë. UK passports don't include any diacritical marks but that's not the end of the world.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 17/01/2023 14:40

My cousin had a baby Zoe a year or so ago. It's a sweet name.

ChillysWaterBottle · 17/01/2023 14:40

I love it

Pinkdafodils · 17/01/2023 15:11

Nice name but PLEASE spell it correctly as Zoë!

Zoe looks like Joe Grin

But in the UK the accents are a pain. People know how to pronounce it without accents (or an extra y!)

KirstenBlest · 17/01/2023 15:21

@TeenDivided , you don't have to use them when filling forms and texting etc

I think that's my point.
By the time they aren't used for forms, and texting and emails etc, why bother? You'll only find it irritating they aren't used for forms and texting and emails etc.

Movinghouseatlast · 17/01/2023 15:24

It's a lovely name. I also like Zosey which I have never known anyone to be called other than a character in a book!

Twoinapod · 17/01/2023 15:40

I really don’t like it, I know two in their 30s and they’re really not nice people. I think it’s quite dated now, very popular in the 80s/90s. Similar vibes to Clair

cravingtoblerone · 17/01/2023 16:27

I like it. Refreshingly different on a little one these days...

wingsofabird · 17/01/2023 18:18

I absolutely love it
one of my favourites

CharitySchmarity · 17/01/2023 20:16

I really like it. It's just unusual enough without being try hard quirky, and I don't think it's ever been popular enough to become dated. I don't currently know any little girls with that name (and I only know two adults, one of whom looks in her 60s, which did surprise me a bit!), but I would not be at all surprised if I heard of a new baby Zoë. I do prefer it with the dots but agree with a previous poster that you need to be prepared to accept that not everybody will use them. (To anyone who doesn't know how to type them - it's Alt 137.)

Zoe is a lovely name! If you like it, use it!
