Can I get away with this name pairing?

DC2 is William, always always known as Will. Unborn DC3 is a boy- our favourite name by far is Edward, to be known as Ted.

I've realised the famous Bill and Ted pairing exists. Given that DC2 is never ever Bill, can I get away with this? Otherwise DC3 will have to be Ed instead which I quite like but would be a bit of a shame.

William and Edward are an obvious sibset pairing - both very timeless classic names, there must be hundreds of brothers with those names around the country (probably if they have a 3rd or 4th brother they'll be similarly named something like George, Henry or James etc). So I really wouldn't be concerned - they are commonplace enough that the "Bill and Ted" films are a blip in comparison, and it's not exactly a terrible link even if people do make it.

My grandad (born in 1906) was an Edward known as Ted - it's hardly a new or shocking idea. I think the idea that Ted is short for Theodore is newer in the UK (it might have been used that way in the US for longer) and would personally use Theo for Theodore.

I don't think anyone will think twice about Will and Ted. Young Williams just aren't called Bill nowadays, so it probably won't ever occur to Will's friends that he could theoretically be Bill, and by the time they're old enough to watch the film, they'll have known him as Will for a very long time.

Ted is an extremely common nickname for Edward.

Imagine trying to explain that to your child and why the shortening of his name starts with a different letter... personally I'd find Ed a much easier shortening

Williams have been called Bill for centuries. Have you not noticed? Or the Elizabeths called Beth?
