Emmie - just Emmie - is it usable?

Now we thought it wouldn’t be an issue at all because Ellie was popular for so long and they aren‘t really that different.

But the feedback we’ve been getting isn’t very positive. Do you think just Emmie is fine? I personally find it more mature sounding than Ellie but maybe that’s just me.

Emmy or Emmie and why?

Do you think there’s a hidden popularity because many Emmas and Emilys go by Emmie? I personally have never encountered one and the Emmas etc we know go by their full names or sometimes by Em.

Thanks

I know of an Emme pronounced Emmy, which I find highly annoying 😅

For me, it's just a nickname. Emmy sounds really twee and saccharine. Emmie! Emmie!

Give the girl a proper name and if you absolutely must shorten it to Emmy when she's a child then you can but at least she can choose something more solid when she's older.

Emma, Emmanuelle, Emmeline all perfectly nice names for a woman or a girl.

buttermut · 13/01/2023 17:38

I think Emmie is a lovely name😊

woodhill · 13/01/2023 17:38

Give her a full name

Emma or Emily?

Raspberry290 · 13/01/2023 17:38

Ellie is a lovely name. Emmie just sounds like a nickname

Nicanabanana · 13/01/2023 17:39

Personally I’d go with Emmaline and shorten it by I do really like Emmie as a NN.

JoyPeaceHealth · 13/01/2023 17:40

I'd think ''what did I just hear?''
It's cute, but I would put Emma on the bc

I'd do this too.

I know an Emmie, never thought anything of it. She suits it. A teen now & likes her name :)

AmberGer · 13/01/2023 17:42

I know an Emmie! She's sweet as a button and her name really suits her. I love it. ❤️

Emme is a perfectly normal German name, why does that annoy you?

OP, I’m generally more of a full name on birth certificate person but actually I quite like Emmie (though I would still go for Emily / Emilia / Emmeline).

Bronnau · 13/01/2023 17:42

I quite liked it until I thought of M.E. (which is what they used to call CFS)

Raspberry290 · 13/01/2023 17:42

Emilia is lovely shortened to Emmie

Raspberry290 · 13/01/2023 17:43

Oh no just saw PP’s post about the disease M.E and now that’s all I’ll ever think when I see or hear that name!

OnMyWayToSenility · 13/01/2023 17:43

I know an Emmy and she is the most wonderful lovely human you'll ever meet.

picnicshicnic · 13/01/2023 17:44

I think jt just sounds like a nickname, but I think the same about Ellie.

Sadly, Ellie is very much accepted as a name but I doubt Emmie will be.

Ultimately though it's up to you. It doesn't really matter what others think.

tootiredtospeak · 13/01/2023 17:47

We have an Emmie in the family nickname is Em. I think its lovely.

piedbeauty · 13/01/2023 17:48

It sounds like part of a name, not a real name, sorry. There are so many gorgeous names out there! Emmaline, Emily, Emma - Emmie could be a nickname.

Emdubz · 13/01/2023 17:51

What about Esme if you like the ‘me’ ending?

mumonthehill · 13/01/2023 17:52

I am an older Emma and would hate for my name to have been Emmie. My closest friends call me em but i would find Emmie as a name too cute and personal.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 13/01/2023 17:53

The Emma I know well is called Emmie by family, but she’s a lovely girl and so I’m biased when I say I love it. It does sound like a nickname though.

emmathedilemma · 13/01/2023 18:08

I don’t know a single Emma or Emily who goes by Emmie. It sounds like a nn, and an irritating one at that.

Fuckstix · 13/01/2023 18:11

I'd say perfectly usable but a bit nothingy. One of the longer versions mentioned, or Emme which is an established name and is more 'complete' looking, have more substance.

Blahburst · 13/01/2023 18:13

It’s a lovely name. I prefer Emmy or Emme to the ie spelling.

Outfor150 · 13/01/2023 18:18

It’s definitely a short form for a proper, longer name. I think it’s a bit forgettable. It seems a shame to me, because the longer forms can be nice.

OhGingleBells · 13/01/2023 18:23

I know an Emmie in her early twenties! Not short for anything.

She’s lovely and thus I think of the name as lovely! Usually I prefer names to have a longer version but don’t think it needs a ‘full’ version necessarily.
