Girl Danny/Dani full name

I like the nickname Danny/Dani for a girl but wouldn't want it to be her full name. I know the obvious names would be Danielle or Daniella, but are there any others where it would work? Also, opinions on the nickname for a girl, is it dated or does it still work?

In Greek legend Danae was the mother of Persius.

O Danny boy, the pipes the pipes are calling.
Why do this to a girl?

@DuchessOfSausage loads of girls are called Danni/Dani. It's not unusual.

I like Dani/Danny but I’m glad you’re going for a longer version so she has more choice of what she wants to go by when she’s older

Daniah
Danica/Danicka
Jordan
Haydan

Although these names don’t have Dan in them, I still think Diana and Dinah could work

Danica?

I like Danni/Danny/Dani

I was also about to suggest Danica. I loved that name when first heard in a Scooby Doo episode when it featured Daphne’s cousin Danica.

I should have been clearer with the title as if you read the text under I'm interested in full names. So if for some reason she was beset with people constantly singing Danny Boy she could go with the longer name.(I also have a song with my name and can't say it's ever been an issue)

Can safely say I've NEVER had this in my 39 years Confused
It's hardly an unusual name

I would say that people now can't get the different between Danielle/Daniel and I'm forever correcting people that it's not Daniel

How about going full Game of Thrones with Daenerys?

Haha, I wondered if that would be suggested. It is actually a nice-sounding name but I wouldn't want to use such an obvious name from the series.

Realistically the only name Dani is going to be obviously short for is Danielle or Daniela. You can go really convoluted and try to say she’s Jordan, Dani for short, but to me you might as well then just say she’s Sophia Maria, Dani for short. Or Nadia, Dani for short. At least Nadia has all the letters of Dani. And I don’t see the point of finding a name with a tenous link to the name you actually like.

I agree that it doesn't seem so obvious with dan or dani at the end of a name but some of the suggestions don't have tenous links like Danica.

I liked Daenerys as in game of thrones but felt it was a bit unfair on dd as she would have to constantly spell it. She gets shortened to Dany (yes I'm aware this is fictional)

A little "out there", but just adding these in case you like them -

Loredana - used in various Romance and Slavic languages but probably originally Italian. Popular in Romania, but I've usually seen it shortened to Lóri.
Líadan - Irish

I guess this is but of an old fashioned name but Diana.. it would work for the nickname you like anyway :)

@purpledalmation Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't familiar with that ancient greek name. It seems to be pronounced a bit different to how I'd say Danny - at least from searching for its pronunciation. It is an interesting one but I think most people where I am wouldn't be familiar with it and I fear they'd think I'd tried to do a unique spelling or they wouldn't know how to pronounce it.

@AmandaMirandaPanda I've never come across this name either. I really want to like it but not feeling it. It's a shame as I also like Lori as a shortened form too.

Thanks also to everyone else too with suggestions. Some good options to consider.

Danae (ancient Greek) is Dan-ah-ay/ee (three syllables) at least according to trad English classical languages pronounciation. And also here (classical Italian):
forvo.com/word/danae/ and here (University of Baltimore): home.ubalt.edu/ntygfit/ai_01_pursuing_fame/ai_01_tell/iliad_characters_.htm

The story is quite well-known in mythology www.theoi.com/Heroine/Danae.html and was the basis for a lot of Old Master paintings,

I also really love Dani as a name. We seriously considered Danya but then decided it sounded too close to our first daughter's name and went for a completely different name for second daughter
