Hi, I’ve posted before to try to get to a final decision but I’m still not managing - I get awful baby name anxiety and took months to name my last son. I need to decide between:

Elliot Max William Marshall (concern is the lack of gd nickname for Elliot and maybe it being a bit American?)

Max Elliot William Marshall (several people have said Max Marshall is too grr and in your face due to alliteration).

Have played with Felix, Jack, Arthur too but just not sure - Arthur doesn’t go too well with my other son.

Please be kind but votes welcome, aiming to decide tomorrow.

Good solid names that won't date too much. Flip a coin for the name order? It will make a great story to tell him when he's older. And congratulations.

Both great, strong names 😊

SunshineClouds1 · 08/01/2023 19:31

Prefer Elliot Max.

I know a young boy called Elliot and he doesn't have a nickname, sometimes El but it's a lovely name to not need shortened

Chatterchatter · 08/01/2023 19:31

I've got an Elliot. He gets called El, Elba and occasionally Elbow! I much prefer it to Max but then I'm obviously biased! I think Max is more common as well although have met a few more Elliot's recently.

tealandteal · 08/01/2023 19:32

My maiden name was Marshall, personally I wouldn’t put Max first. Elliot is lovely, maybe he will get El for short.

Thank you! Do people get the spelling wrong a lot?!

I think the alliteration of Max Marshall is fine. BUT I really like the name Elliot. It’s sweet when little but cool and strong when older.

Nicknames don’t need to be thought about in advance- they work themselves out and are usually all the more lovely for that rather than being predetermined.

You have a choice between two great names OP but Elliot has the edge for me.

WingingIt101 · 08/01/2023 19:37

Like both options but I really like max Marshall!

A bit but we deliberately went with the most common spelling for a first name as opposed to surname which is Elliot, or was 10 years ago when we named him that, so usually people get it right.

Wombat222 · 08/01/2023 19:38

Yes I’m quite strict on it being Elliot with one T!

I really like Elliot and agree with pp that it doesn't require a nick name.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/01/2023 19:40

Hi @Wombat222 . Congratulations on your little boy.
You are overthinking- understandable cos it is a big decision.

Stop thinking about the middle names for now. Don't worry about how it goes with the sibling's name.

Without looking at your other thread(s), I'm picking up that he's an Elliott or a Felix. Maybe if you post a photo we'll come up with ideas.

HowForNow · 08/01/2023 19:41

I’m surprised at all the Elliot love, it’s nowhere near as good as Max to my ear. I also love the alliteration of Max Marshall so I’d go with Max first no question. Congratulations!

summerbaby2023 · 08/01/2023 19:41

I love Elliot! Sounds timeless and goes wonderfully with the other names 😁

Krakenes · 08/01/2023 19:41

Elliot, Max is nice but a bit bland and very popular. I know an Elliot and we call him Ellie.

Follycastle · 08/01/2023 19:44

I like both names but Max Marshall is a great alliterative name - no one would forget who he is!

Kentlassie · 08/01/2023 19:44

Both are great! Fwiw I think the alliteration is fine….and by the way, don’t stress! It took me all of 5 weeks and 6 days (to the day of the registration appt) to name DS last year.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/01/2023 19:47

There used to be an Arthur Marshall on the telly.

The Elliott I know has a nn not related to his name.

CastleTower · 08/01/2023 19:49

Both very good names - I don't think you can go wrong tbh.

Eastereggsboxedupready · 08/01/2023 19:54

Max Marshall is fab op!!

PinkSyCo · 08/01/2023 19:59

Elliot’s a lovely name, but El as a nickname not so much. Jack Elliot William Marshall has quite a nice ring to it I think, and Max is a good name too. Congratulations on the the birth of little Jack/Elliot/Max. Flowers

Thanks! The constant messages from friends asking what it is are stressing me out!

He was funny.

Your friends are just curious - it's normal, but it won't help you.
