Baby 4 - thoughts please

Currently keeping baby 4 a secret after two long years of recurrent loss, but need to do something to get excited ahead of my 20 week scan in 2 weeks.

We both work in education so want to avoid popular names and will have odd associations with otherwise lovely names. Tend to go for Hebrew/Germanic names. Some obvious ones I’ve used for my big boys.

Girl forerunner: Noa Violet - Violet a family name
Boy forerunner: Herbie (but Herbert, also a family name) Jack (family name too!!)

Any suggestions or thoughts welcomed!

I prefer Noah with an H but that’s probably because the couple of girl Noahs I know are spelled that way. Violet is nice.
Love Herbert nn Herbie. And it goes well with Jack. It’s probably an old fashioned way of thinking but I consider Jack a nickname for John rather than a name in its own right. Just as Harry is a nickname for Harold or Henry. Or Ted is for Edward or Theodore.

Very old fashioned given my 84yo grandfather is Jack and was registered Jack, not John 😂

Love Violet & Jack. Not keen on Noa. Herbie as a nn is Herbert is nice.

congratulations on your pregnancy!

Noa Violet is beautiful.

I'm not keen on Herbert, but how about
Vincent
Stanley
Walter
Quentin

goldenfoliage · 07/01/2023 09:13

I love Violet and Jack, not keen on Herbert and Noa. I once knew male Noa - it was variation of Noah in his language. Also, it's name that became used very recently... I feel like there's not much adult woman Noas, as there's babies Noa.
Herbert seems too old, but I like Herbie...

other ideas:
Nimue
Kaia
Cordelia
Winifred
Melusine
Dorothea

Hero
Hebe
Hermes
Nestor

Jasper
Marco

Thanks all!

The Jack who the family name is for died last year at 96, so happy that it is traditional enough.

Noa, with that spelling, is an Old Testament name, so also very traditional and for a woman.

Some nice suggestions, but nothing knocking off the top spots. Names I have gone for previously are Isaac, Nancy and Otto, if that helps.

I like Noa Violet.

I also like Herbie Jack, but am not a massive fan of Herbert. However, I do like a longer name on the BC (I'm one of those people) so would probably use Herbert. I just like a formal option.

Other options;

Boys;

Francis
Wilfred
Jasper
Gabriel

Girls;

Esther
Miriam
Rebecca
Verity

Purplemagnolias · 07/01/2023 10:13

Noa is definitely 100% a girl's name!

I know several women Noa.

BabyFour2023 · 07/01/2023 10:19

Felicity
Harriet

Twoinapod · 07/01/2023 12:01

I love Noa, it’s so pretty. Would it be an issue as you already have an N name in the family as things like post might get muddled. If that’s not an issue though definitely go for that.

Herbert/Herbie isn’t to my taste but it’s not unpleasant

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 08/01/2023 10:19

Dislike Noa. There are so many male Noahs at the moment I don't know why you'd want to throw a female Noa into the mix.
Violet - nice but getting popular as a first name. Good as a middle.

Herbie - not my taste but original at least.
Jack - too popular as a first name but a nice middle name.

Ruth
Lydia

Since you also like Otto, I just mention that my grandson is named Otis. I love his name! It's derived from Otto but he's named after the great Otis Redding , you know, "Sitting on the dock of the bay....🎶🎵"

Noa Violet is beautiful, what a lovely choice!
If you like Noa, you may also like Zoe or Nora.

Herbert Jack also lovely, though I much prefer Bertie to Herbie it that's just personal preference. Alternatives - Albert or Noah.

StoneColdStoneCold · 30/07/2023 10:42

Noa is beautiful with a very rich history.

Would it be prudent to propose an additional appellation, perhaps Louisa or Aviva, to complement the given name?

Daffodilwoman · 30/07/2023 12:32

I don’t like Noa. I’ve only ever heard it for a boy.
Herbie is ok, reminds me of the car though.
Jack is fine but quite common if you don’t mind that.

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 30/07/2023 21:38

Thinking Jewish Germanic, I really like Judith nn Jude or Judi.

Abraham (Abe or Bram)
Solomon
Saul
Maccabee
Edmund
Kit
Augustus nn Gus

We had Otto on our possible list, and also Rollo! Could be an issue with puppy fat though!
