Hi, we’re due in Feb with a baby girl and really like the name Bodie - but would like to find out how people would pronounce it first. It would be great to get your thoughts please!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Pemba · 01/01/2023 17:56

It's not an attractive girl's name, it sounds more like a surname.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 01/01/2023 21:02

Please don't call a girl this

ShillyShallySherbet · 01/01/2023 21:15

I’d pronounce it Bow (as in bow tie) Dee
I would assume based on the name it was a boy though, perhaps s as it’s similar to Brodie

Spenn · 01/01/2023 21:23

It's a surname as in Bodie and Doyle. Pronounced as above.

Like body?!

Longdarkcloud · 03/01/2023 18:00

Too close to body. As a teenager likely to be called The Body. Can you find a better spelling eg Beaudie etc
Or go for something like Dodie

cinnabongene · 03/01/2023 18:01

It’s a boys name

illiterato · 03/01/2023 18:06

I knew a great dog called Bodie. Female if it makes a difference. Rhymes with Jodie.

AlwaysGinPlease · 03/01/2023 18:08

Op I think it might be best to check out the most disliked baby names thread on here yesterday before you decide... you'll see why!

TheShellBeach · 03/01/2023 18:08

It's a vile name, OP. Think again, please.

EhCarlos · 03/01/2023 18:11

To rhyme with bogie.

MajorCarolDanvers · 03/01/2023 18:13

Like Brodie but without the R

(I don't like it btw)

illbeinthegarden · 03/01/2023 18:35

Wasn't that Patrick Swayze in Point Break? I like it!

DorothyCannoli · 03/01/2023 18:37

Bodie rhymes with Jodie and its an awful name. I think you'll get it mispronounced as 'body'. The boys name Bohdi is overused IMO.

museumum · 03/01/2023 18:41

Rhymes with Jodie or Scottish name Brodie which I love but maybe you need a Scottish accent for Brodie, I’ve not heard southern English say it.

JoyPeaceSleep · 03/01/2023 18:42

Like the Bodhi tree? I think it's a Buddhist name.

I prefer Bindi for a girl.

UsingChangeofName · 03/01/2023 19:33

As everyone says - to rhyme with Jodie. As in Bodie and Doyle, 'The Professionals'.

I wouldn't name a child Bodie though.

gogohmm · 01/01/2023 10:21

I thought it was a boys name spelt bodhi

This is what I’d assume

I wouldn’t use it for a girl

LittleBearPad · 03/01/2023 22:08

Like Bogey but with a D - I wouldn’t

WoolyMammoth55 · 03/01/2023 22:14

We have 3 boys called Bodhi in DS's school. It's a fairly common 'hippy' name around here.

They are all pronounced Bow-dee, as far as I know.

You might find people expect her to be a boy.

I wouldn't personally call a girl this but you do you, OP.

LetsDoThis2023 · 03/01/2023 22:17

I'd spell it Bodhi

RambamThankyouMam · 03/01/2023 22:17

Please don't call her Bodie. It's repulsive.

LetsDoThis2023 · 03/01/2023 22:18

And it's a boy's name.

How is that spelling better?? 😱😆

Crackstone · 03/01/2023 22:26

It’s all very well when she’s a baby but what about when she grows up and is a professional?

<I’ll get my coat>
