Baby brother for Cora

Please hit me up with your suggestions 😀

I love Blake. OH loves Isaac. We both like but don’t love Rowan and Flynn. Former is growing on me and I do like the symbolism of the rowan tree. Both becoming quite popular though.

OH has been through the top 300 and said no to almost every one and when I suggest names he’s so unhelpful. Can’t even explain why he dislikes something 🥴

My daughter has vetoed Finn. Apparently it sounds fishy.

Ha ha, true that fish have Finns 🐟

She is 8 so I think that would explain the ridiculous response. It’s never entered my mind!

@MyEasterEggs Rowan is my baby daughter's name. One thing I'd warn you of is that RoMan with an M is THE fastest rising boy name, risen over 600 chart places and now in the top 25 names. So everywhere I go there's baby Romans and I get so many comments asking if the name is spelt with an M or a W in middle and it really upsets me. A few years ago it wouldn't have been a problem but Roman with M is now so trendy and still rising, it'll probably be top 10 in a year or two. Just depends if thats a factor for you or not. The other thing is that the name Rowan gets shortened to Row by people all the time and it seems inevitable even when I ask for it not to be shortened it happens. Fine if you like the shortening. Not ideal if you don't.

Billslills · 02/01/2023 00:29

I love Rowan. My only hesitation is it is becoming popular fast and as per above post, Roman is ridiculously popular and I imagine there will be lots of Rowans and Roman’s at classes/clubs etc. Issac is lovely, and sounds nice with Cora.

Billslills · 02/01/2023 01:00

Rohan also very nice but still problematic as per above.

NewtoHolland · 02/01/2023 01:06

I think Rowan is OK but Cora is amazing so it would be nice to have something as brilliant.

I think a one syllable name.

Rex ?

This response is so helpful. Sometimes we need some real world advice. We briefly talked about Roman but I hadn’t realised it was rising so fast!!!

Thank you so much! We know a Rex and he really carries it off. I felt Jude had a similar vibe but my partner thinks it’s try hard. Honestly. So hard to please 😭

I think Blake and Flynn have a similar vibe.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/01/2023 16:38

I think Issac is your best bet. I quite like Flynn too but it it’s a bit too like the over-popular Finn names. I like Rowan but there are a LOT of Rowan and Romans. I am not keen on Blake. Jude is getting v popular though, so no one would think it was try hard..

Maybe..

Blake is nowhere near as cool or classy as Cora imo. However, this is probably due to a Blake I know (and also the voices I've heard screeching it in supermarkets where I live).

Isaac is lovely. Finn is ok.

I'm really struggling to come up with a match for Cora though as I do like it a lot!

Maybe something like;

Vincent
Laurence/Lawrence
Gabriel
Wilfred

GoodbyeLondon · 02/01/2023 16:49

Or maybe Asa? Or Avery?

MyEasterEggs · 02/01/2023 19:47

@GoodbyeLondon you know I keep noticing Avery. And Asa I like but wonder if people would pronounce it properly. I actually really like Asher which I thought might go nicely.

@Luredbyapomegranate Toren I love along with Taron. Both positive associations for me. But my OH might take convincing.

It’s funny how everyone’s impression of a name is different. I’ve never heard anyone say Blake but questioning it now!

Love Rowan. Ronan is another lovely similar name.

All these names (Roman, Rowan, etc) are given to well under 1% of baby boys. I have a toddler and have never met a child with these names locally. Popularity is very regional too.

To put it in perspective, there's over 250 primary schools in my county and even the most popular names (Noah, Oliver, etc) are given to 40 boys a year - far less than one per reception class.

Basically, don't let popularity put you off a name you love - multiples in one baby group or one class is very unlikely.

Immediately bought Rowan before reading your post. Also James.

Maybe Ronan if you like Rowan & Finn?

squatternutbosh12 · 06/01/2023 13:20

Team Rowan here! I have a baby son Rowan and absolutely love his name. Yes it’s getting more popular but I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I think kids like meeting others with their name! I used to love finding a ‘name twin’. 🤣 it’s not like there’s going to be classes full of Rowans.

Never met anyone who thought his name might be Roman or struggled with hearing the difference between a W and an M. My sweet elderly neighbour who is quite deaf and forgetful does call him Ronan from time to time, which doesn’t remotely bother us.

Good luck with the choice and congratulations, it’s so fun naming your baby and then introducing them. One of my favourite memories of the newborn time is settling on his little name and telling friends and family 🥰

squatternutbosh12 · 06/01/2023 13:43

Fwiw, despite being unashamedly biased in previous post, I also love Cora & Finn together 😊

Rex ?

Yes completely agree. Find the whole Roman+Rowan trend thing over done already (and the names are no where near peaked yet looking at the numbers). The nickname Row isn't great. Cora feels more special. I like James as although it's popular, its a classic.
You've probably already thoughts of these:
Laurence nn Laurie
Peter
Eric
Daniel
Christopher nn Kit
I actually really like Blake, Rex and Finn

MyEasterEggs · 09/01/2023 15:29

Thanks so much everyone. Got a shortlist we all agree on. But different favourites!

Blake
Jude
Lucas

MN likely to be Campbell, which is a family name. I love it as a first name but not keen on the meaning.
