Can’t find a boys name I like ☹️

I like James but it’s also a little bit insipid. Also like George but I can’t use it for various reasons, ditto Jack. I suppose I like traditional names that aren’t too posh or ‘geeky’. Any ideas ladies? I also like Leo but DH doesn’t.

James is a great name...as is Joseph. Joel is a little less traditional but lovely Imho

Babyroobs · 28/12/2022 21:26

I love Joel. Wish I had considered it more carefully for any of my 3 boys.

FleasNavidad · 28/12/2022 21:26

Totally relate to this. Had no probs at all choosing a name for DD (4) but the pool for boys seemed so small. We had just a few on our shortlist for our DD born 6 months ago, in the end we went for Henry. I do like it and it suits him, but there are LOTS of Henrys around...
I really like Alexander but husband want keen, Sebastian another favourite but didn't go well with our surname.

It sort of means weak, bland, a bit ‘wet’. That’s my interpretation though and not the dictionary’s (which I haven’t looked up).

Assuming you mean insipid and not the typo?

DC1 has one of your three names you like in your OP, if DC2 had been a boy she would have been Seth or Miles

Love James and don't find it insipid -it's got too much history/strong namesakes for that (plus James Bond imagery?), so maybe we have different taste - also I like Jack too, but less keen on George which I find a bit stodgy sounding, so again maybe different tastes, but "traditional/classic" sounding names I like that haven't been mentioned as being in your family yet:

Samuel
John
Michael
Edward
Daniel
Zach(ary)
Joseph
Owen
Marcus
Adam

If you like Leo then maybe Leon, Nico (Nicholas), Ivo or Jago?

scottishnames · 29/12/2022 10:10

James and Joel both good names.
If you like traditional, what about Edmund, Edwin, Edgar? Or Robert, Charles, Jonathan, Phillip, Hugh? John (like Jane for a girl) is simple, elegant, timeless.
I also rather like Leonard and Lionel; David is probably due a comeback before too long.
