Can I call my second daughter this?

My first daughter is named Aoife Grace. I love it. I’ve known I’d have a girl called Aoife 2 years before she was born.
I’m now pregnant with our second daughter. Her middle name will be May, after a late family member.

Do you think AVA is too close to Aoife?
I quite like it.
We wanted another A name.
So far we have:
Aria
Aida/Ada
Ava
Anya
Aurla

Thoughts or suggestions?

Much too similar unfortunately
Aoife and Avery
Aoife and Aria
Aoife and Anya
Aoife and Alina

Go for Ava
If not
Aurelia
Asia
Affia
Alya
Aliyah
Ada
Acre

NoSquirrels · 23/12/2022 18:01

Alana (several spelling variants)
Alice or Alys (or Alicia)
Amelie (or Amelia or Amy)
Adeline (or Adele or Adelaide)

I’d be looking for a nickname or diminutive I liked e.g. Arabella = Bella, or Abigail = Gail.

Ava is too close to Aoife
Aria - not keen. Nothingy compared to Aoife
Aida/Ada - not keen.
Anya - fine
Aurla - just no. it's awful

Audrey?

You can’t have another a name ending with an ‘a’ sound, it’s too similar.

If you need it to be an A name (I’m another one who thinks you should give them different initials), I think it will need to be a different sounding one. Like…

Alice
Annie
Annabelle
Autumn
Amber
Alexis
April

This.

But honestly I’d encourage you to let your second child have more of her own identity and think of names that don’t begin with A. There are lots.

winonarose · 23/12/2022 18:48

I do think they are too similar but it's your choice x

Vinylloving · 23/12/2022 18:52

Athena or Allegra?

CaffiSaliMali · 23/12/2022 20:35

Anya is lovely and is the best from your list IMO.

I was going to suggest Alice or Alys and I like a PP's suggestion of Alicia.
Amy is also a good shout.

Ariana
Alyssa
Amelie
Abigail
Alix
Alexandra
Alexis
Alexia
Avril/April
Aileen

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 23/12/2022 20:38

Aeryn. Begins with an A but pronounced Erin. Goes with your first child's name, and the middle name too.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/12/2022 20:39

Aisling?

PeaceJoySleep · 23/12/2022 20:46

too similar

RedLem0nade · 23/12/2022 20:50

Another vote for Alannah.

vespucci9 · 23/12/2022 21:02

Yes, they're too similar - they are basically the same name.

Aoife is Irish for Eva and Ava is another Anglo version.

As other have said, Áine pronounced Awnya or Ailis pronounced Aylish maybe or Aisling which people know how to pronounce (in the UK usually anyway). Aileen might be easier for people to pronounce also and goes well with May.

It might be good for both girls to have Irish names.

vespucci9 · 23/12/2022 21:03

Calling her Ava would be like having a soon called Sean and another called John - same name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/12/2022 01:09

Ava and Aoife are too similar, and the trouble with Aine/Anya and Aria etc is they start and end with an ah sound - which is just too much paired with Aoife

Annis
Anest
Annalise
Annette
Anneli
Astrid
Arran
Aislinn
Arwen
Annabel
Annabeth

I really wouldn’t feel that you need another A

Tempyname · 24/12/2022 01:17

Avice/Avis is a lovely name that is very similar to Ava without the same similarity in sound to Aiofe. It means bird. Other similar A names to Ava include - Avari, Avalee and Aven. I also second the votes for Anna which is an absolute classic.

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 24/12/2022 01:25

Astrid

Trez1510 · 24/12/2022 01:31

Anoushka May

BabyFour2023 · 24/12/2022 01:32

Too similar, sorry. What about Ada?

FirstFallopians · 24/12/2022 01:35

What about Ailbhe (or Alva)?

Aoife and Ava are way too similar. They’re in that group of names along with Eve, Evie, Eva etc which just blend into one.

Rustyhandlebars · 24/12/2022 01:39

Anya is lovely
Andree
Astrid
Antonia

Rickandmortified100 · 25/12/2022 04:19

Way too similar. I like Anya.

Dinosaurus86 · 26/12/2022 10:22

Ariadne?
Alexandra?

Hohoholdon · 26/12/2022 14:23

Alba
