Three names which sound similar, yes or no?

Hi, we have three names that we want to give our baby, one first name and two middle names. I’m a bit worried that all three names together don’t flow or feel right but they have sentimental connections. The names are similar to the ones below. What do you think?

Annie Amy Carrie Anderson

They don't flow but it's only really you and her who will know or remember her middle names, so if you are sentimental about them then you might as well use them.

Sugarfree23 · 21/12/2022 00:47

Could you use variations of the names and play with swapping them about?
Amy Ann Carrie
Or
Catriona Amy Ann

Christmasnero · 21/12/2022 00:48

I dont think it flows
can you change Carrie to caroline or carolyn and Annie to Anne or Anna with nn annie

Carolyn ann amy
amy Ann caroline

they may be slight better but really it sounds like you’re just listing names or people rather than it being one name
I think amy is the issue because it’s so different
but also no one will know

The names all being two syllables doesn't sound good either.

Could you use a longer first name and abbreviate ?

Annabelle Amy Carrie Anderson sounds better than Annie Amy Carrie Anderson but you can still use Annie as a nickname

SunshineAndFizz · 21/12/2022 01:07

No doesn't flow. All three have 'ee' sounds at the end.

I completely agree. Was going to write pretty much the same thing, only with Annalise as my first name pick.

If it helps, when I heard my Annie Esme's name announced as she went to collect her masters degree, it sounded bloody great! Annie Amy is a bit the same. If you need the Carrie as well, go for it. Everyone is right that you never use middle names in real life, but when they do something stupendous and someone properly enunciates your child's full name in public, it's fab.

mathanxiety · 21/12/2022 02:02

It all sounds as if a committee just couldn't decide which name to omit and decided feck it, leave it at three.

earlgreytealeaves · 21/12/2022 10:35

Would it sound better to just choose two “ee” ending names?
The longer name suggestions are helpful, thank you!

I'm not keen on the sound of them together and also...this is extremely specific 😂....

...But, on the off chance that she will be a dual citizen, check how the passports work. I've come a cropper recently with this. One country left off my second middle name and the UK passport office wouldn't issue my new British one as they said it would be like me having two identities.

I'm now going to change my name by deed poll to drop the second middle name as it's a pain in the bum.

Mine are long names though, so even the DVLA cuts the second one off as it doesn't fit.

Notonyournellykelly · 21/12/2022 10:51

Also, if your surname begins with an S like Smith, it may sound like Annie Amy carries mith

KirstenBlest · 21/12/2022 11:06

It's too long, and Annie and the middle names are a bit too similar

Obvs ignore this if your name is Anderson per the op 🤦

Personal preference of course, but I think two 'ee' sounds together are a bit 'sing-songy'. I say that as someone who has 'ee' sounds for both my first name and surname (thanks to getting married) and it's a bit naff.

KirstenBlest · 21/12/2022 14:11

Annie Anderson made me think of

aoibhacado · 21/12/2022 14:52

amy ann carrie would sound good!
if you're open to switching spellings, amy anne sounds very classic and elegant, sort of a classic children's book vibe. also, amy-anne could be used as one name, and carrie or caroline could be her middle name. Flowers

SippingSangriaInMyHead · 21/12/2022 14:54

No, it doesn’t flow well.
But you need to consider how often you use middle names, most people never do, so it doesn’t really matter. Use them if you like them.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/12/2022 15:18

Amy-Anne is awful

DuchessOfSausage · 21/12/2022 15:19

Holly Carrie Anne? Tra-la-la

Sugarfree23 · 21/12/2022 15:37

I'd be wary of putting Ann / Anne in the middle or it will sound like Amy an' Carrie
Could you go for Amy Carolann

I definitely wouldn't have the 3 you suggested.

DuchessOfSausage · 21/12/2022 15:40

Carolann is awful too. In the 1950s and 1960s Carol/Carole was very popular and nearly every one will be a Carol Ann.

Firebird83 · 22/12/2022 00:11

Annie Caroline Amy?

DramaAlpaca · 22/12/2022 01:24

I appreciate they aren't the exact name. It'd be helpful if you posted the exact names as it's hard to comment otherwise.

The name you've put down doesn't flow, and two diminutives doesn't sound right to me.

Lulu2171 · 22/12/2022 06:41

I agree they don't fit well but if there are good reasons for having them I really wouldn't worry.

A far bigger issue for me would be if your surname is actually Anderson. Annie Anderson is a huge no for me.

earlgreytealeaves · 23/12/2022 14:11

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments, I think we will have to maybe use one of the names to honour the sentimental ties and save the others for maybe another child.
