Is it a chavtastic name or am I just being swayed by a couple I know?

We have Liam or Alexander, I think ALexander sounds so much less scrotey.

Liam is hardly a chavvy name. I don.t consider myself to be a chav or my DS1 to be one. Much in the same way I don't consider Alexander to be a name given to a toffee nosed twit.
Liam is a diminuitive of Uilliam the Irish Gaelic form of the Germanic William. It is not a shortened version of the English William. As this was introduced to Ireland about the 10th century, I am sure that there weren't many Chavs roaming about then.

I wouldn't say Liam is Chavtastic, However it's very very common these days, which is fine if you dont mind having a common babies name like Liam, William, Jack, Joshua, Oliver, Alex, Harrison, Oscar, Ben, Sam or Ethan !!!

Hear, hear, Blocky! Liam has always been a repectable name in Ireland long before Oasis came along. And while we're on that subject those lads don't even know how to pronounce their own surname! Gallagher is prounounced Galla-her not Galla-ger!

Certainly round here Liam is a bit of a rough boys' name! I guess it does totally depend on local usage and who you know with the name; in itself I like the sound of the name but I wouldn't use it personally because of my perception.

Agree that Leo is a lovely similar-ish name that's not too common, do you like that?

ds1 was gogint o be liam but as dh is a big oasis fan we used it as his middle name instead and he ahs a v unusual first name, then with ds2 we really like the name william and it wasn;t until peopel started calling him liam that it even occurred to su that liam was short for william but he was named william after my grandad.

so maybe i am a bit biased but i do liek the name william and if you called him alexander it would be shortened to alex which is on a par with liam for common names, and either name is nice, althoguh have to admit would be swayed to liam because of the fmaily connection.

Liam is lovely, but so is Alexander, lol...so, no help whatsoever...
but, why is Liam now a chavvy name....tbh, I don't think there is any name that will not be seen as chavvy nowadays...it doesn't matter how classy a name is, someone will come along and say how chavtastic it is, lol...
