For my SIL.. it’s between these 2 options so she isn’t after suggestions, just which people think is better.

Arthur Jack

AllyCatTown · 24/11/2022 06:10

I don’t think you should give the first and middle name equal weight. Arthur is a better choice than Jack so I’d go Arthur Jack.

RambamThankyouMam · 24/11/2022 08:47

Jack Arthur sounds like you're telling someone to go and jerk off someone named Arthur.

Arthur Jack sounds like something a car mechanic would use.

They just don't go together as names.

Enko · 24/11/2022 10:29

Arthur Jack

Sounds nicer and also avoids JAW as initials

MerryChristmasToYou · 24/11/2022 10:29

@RambamThankyouMam , he'll be Jack White or Arthur White most of the time, unless there is another one with thesame first name and surname.

viques · 24/11/2022 10:32

I would go Arthur James or Arthur John, then Jack is an alternative .

Danni675 · 24/11/2022 10:33

I would have said Jack Arthur as Jack at least has been popular for ages, whereas Arthur I think will date badly (I know obviously it's an ancient name but it's in a little bubble of popularity, a bit like all the 70s Sarahs). However, JAW is really bad so I'd avoid that. Plus Jack White is the guy from the White Stripes. And there's Jack Black as well.

So Arthur Jack. But it's not great.

MerryChristmasToYou · 24/11/2022 10:46

One of my colleagues is a JAW, and I always thought it was quite cool set of initials. I hadn't thought anything bad of it.

Arthur has become very popular in a short space of time, whereas Jack has been popular for ages. Jack is dropping in popularity, probably because everone knows at least one.

'J Arthur' was rhyming slang when I was at school...

'J Arthur Rank' was the founder of the Rank Organisation - the film company whose films, I think, started with a man banging a big gong (not a euphemism!)

SpinningFloppa · 24/11/2022 11:07

Arthur Jack, but then I do prefer the other one but wouldn’t use it as don’t like JAW I actually didn’t name my dd a certain middle name as it would have spelt a body part and I don’t like initials to spell anything

LightHousePanda · 24/11/2022 11:21

I don't get what's wrong with JAW as initials. It's hardly going to come up and I don't see how it can be bullying material. I don't know most people's middle names even people I've known most of my life and for the ones I do I don't think what their initials make. Don't get me wrong I would avoid things like BJ or PIG as those could be used to bully.

Very good point. A "J Arthur" is pretty well-known slang.

Well my kids initials were STD and not even in that order yet someone still noticed and pointed it out to me (order was actually SDT) so yes people do notice initials thankfully I had another child!

Just to clarify that was 3 children with those initials as it looks like I called my child std 🤦🏻

SequinsandStilettos · 24/11/2022 11:34

Arthur unless she is a White Stripes fan in which case Jack (Jack White is the lead singer).

can I ask where you grew up? Showed SIL this thread this morning and neither of us had ever heard of that slang. Maybe because we’re from Yorkshire?
