Nay

Costacoffeeplease · 21/11/2022 15:55

It will get pronounced kilo

no

MrsBungle · 21/11/2022 15:55

no.

TwinsAndTiramisu · 21/11/2022 15:56

I said "Kwee-lo" in my head.

Behave yourself OP.

Bluedoritos · 21/11/2022 15:57

I don't mind the pronunciation but not keen on it written down, I thought it was pronounced kwill-o at first glance!

fruitsaladsweets · 21/11/2022 15:58

😂 Well that's pretty unanimous!

DH likes names from Greek mythology but we're struggling to agree.

Could also be Kylo but then I think they'd get called Kylo Ren!

Mumsanetta · 21/11/2022 15:59

Everyone will pronounce it kilo. Think of all the kilo, ounce and pound jokes. Don’t do it OP.

Nancydrawn · 21/11/2022 15:59

Pronounced like Kylo, as in Ren? No.

WheresMyDodo · 21/11/2022 15:59

Haha funny joke OP

Rauha · 21/11/2022 16:01

Nope

Clarice99 · 21/11/2022 16:01

Saw the title 'Quilo' and thought the thread was going to be about a new type of feather pillow 😬

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 21/11/2022 16:04

Sounds like a medication or a start up subscription for something

simbobs · 21/11/2022 16:07

Sorry, it's a no from me, too. You do have to think about how a name will be received and the impact it will have on the bearer.

radho · 21/11/2022 16:55

I'm not familiar with it. My first impression is that it looks like a name from another culture.

I've read a lot of Greek mythology over the years and I've never heard of a character named Quilo, so I'd assume it's a fairly obscure reference. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if the Greek alphabet even has the letter Q.

You'll probably get a variety of pronunciations, especially "kilo".

DuchessDandelion · 21/11/2022 16:56

Nope

pictish · 21/11/2022 16:59

I don’t think it’s terrible but people are ignorant and rude and will make a big deal about spelling/pronunciation/stupid nicknames throughout his life.

bilbodog · 21/11/2022 17:01

NO

murasaki · 21/11/2022 17:01

It is terrible, sorry.

IglesiasPiggl · 21/11/2022 17:02

It's never a good idea to saddle a child with a name they will spend the rest of their life spelling and correcting people on.

Gummibär · 21/11/2022 17:02

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if the Greek alphabet even has the letter Q.

My thoughts too.

How about Quentin or Quinn?

Kanaloa · 21/11/2022 17:05

I know a child named Kylo. At first I thought it was a nickname for Kyle, like how some people named Steve sometimes get called Steve-o. But it’s his real name.

I would choose a recognisable name. There’s plenty of less used names that are still recognisable and wearable. If you love Quilo why don’t you try it out for a month as your/DH name and see how much you like introducing yourself as Quilo and spelling it over the phone and explaining it infinity times a day.

BedTaker · 21/11/2022 17:06

No.

It sounds like an app for tracking your fertility or something, and everyone will pronounce it 'kwi-lo'.

Kanaloa · 21/11/2022 17:07

@radho

It isn’t really a name in its own right. It’s a bastardisation/variant of Achilles. So as well as unrecognisable and hard to pronounce, it’s not actually even a proper name.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2022 17:08

Nay. If people see it written they'll pronounce it kilo; if they hear it they'll write it Kylo.
It looks Spanish rather than Greek (which doesn't have a Q) and this is offputting:

NippyWoowoo · 21/11/2022 17:46

I pronounced it Quill-oh Confused

Why not just spell it Kilo Ren
